Rated 5 out of 5 by DaisywithaK Extremely nice camera for the price
This camcorder is a great little camera for anyone, especially video bloggers. It's very user friendly in that it's very easy to control and navigate through its features; it even alerts you when the lens cover is closed. Not only does it have a 52X zoom, but it also has a movable display screen so you can see yourself when filming a "vlog" or interview or other such things. Though the pictures become a bit grainy in the dark, they are beautiful in the daylight and the videos are lovely. Overall, this is one of the best camcorders you can get when you lack the ridiculous $600+ dollars that one would need for higher quality cameras. I highly recommend it to anyone. :)

The camera arrived today. I bought this camera because the specifications on the Sony store website under "Interface" said it had a "microphone input: stereo minijack. That was the main feature I was looking for in a consumer camcorder and when my package arrived today there was no sign of external jack. I got on the Sony website to review the online manual, and there was no manual on-line (as of Feb. 8). So I called tech support and get a recording, "we are experiencing longer than normal wait times..." I finally spoke to a couple of people who seemed to agree the camera won't accept outside mic. The customer sales reps were very nice, but together we were not able to identify an adaptor or any solution to tie just purchased Sony wireless mic to my new Sony camera. The camcorder is a beautiful color and looks like it would be basically easy to use and is very lightweight. I don't know what to do now. I just spent over a $100 on an external mike and about $70 on a 64GB micro SDXC and $20 dollars on a camera bag. I need a camera to record short videos outside in wind for YouTube and I don't think this camera is going to work. I like purchasing online because of the convenience but I depend on the information on consumer web sites to be accurate. Very frustrating, especially after waiting weeks for this new camera to be released.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DandiDon Amazing movie camera!
This is the best movie camera I've ever owned. It's hard to believe that something this small and light does so much. The battery lasts forever before needing recharging.

I want to be fair as I have always enjoyed Sony Camcorders and Cameras. I have never used any other camera products. I still have my 8mm and Hi8 camcorders which is testament to how solid Sony products can be.
This camera however HDR-CX240 is not up to Sony standards. I am not sure if it is the price @ $229 or their Quality Control. First of, I have an HDR-CX260V that I bought 3 years ago and that camera is solid, from ease of use to its sensor, I love it and no complaints.
Now as far as the HDR-CX240 again I want to be fair, it is not a good camera for anyone that cares about picture quality. Yes it does High Definition and does it very well, low light very well, ease of use very well. But when you're subject is standing in front of a doorway or your videoing your TV or any solid object that has straight lines you will notice your straight lines look like you have a fisheye lens on.
Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eODUP_UwM64 and notice how every straight line looks rounded.
Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnKWuRNSqgU and notice how the wood beams are not straight.
I bought this camera for my son for Christmas 2014, we've only had it 3 months and it's already in repair for the last 3 weeks at Precision Camera. At first I thought it was the camera, so I called Sony 4 times until I get their tech support to agree that there's a problem and they gave me a code to send for repair, thanks Sony for the terrible tech support and push back but still had to spend another $32 to ship. Anyway, on a whim I decide to go to Target to try another camera same model, it did the same thing, stand in an isle and video you'll notice all straight lined shelves look skewed, warped/curved. I'm thinking Sony dropped the ball on this camera as I have no idea if it is sensor or lens but either way, look elsewhere if you want a HD Camera on a budget. Watch all my son's videos that have been uploaded in the last 3 months on his channel and you'll see what I'm talking about.
All older videos on his channel are done on a $50 DXG camera that didn't experience this problem. I have contacted other people on youtube whom reviewed this product and they all agreed that they've noticed the same thing but they scratch it off as you get what you paid for. Sorry, I don't agree with that statement.
