Rated 3 out of 5 by dallard25 Moderately happy with this purchase...
The sound quality is good and it's easy to program the speaker level settings. Of course, the blue ray picture looks great. I do have some issues with this unit package deal. 1) the speaker cables are way to short and because of the proprietary speaker connectors and no availability for extending the cables it isn't a good system to mount into the wall or use cable organizers. 2) The wireless controller for the rear satellite speakers blew out on me after a couple of months. To take advantage of the warranty, the Sony repair center wanted me to send in the whole system. This wasn't going to work for me because I've already mounted the system into the wall and had to extend the speaker cables to make it work. The wireless controller is a separate unit but they wouldn't just take it only for repair. Which seems silly since they are a Sony certified repair center. I ended up purchasing the main board for $100 and repairing it myself. I'm in the hole on this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Steveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Good crutch when Samsung audio power amp dies
Despite what the box says, and what the salesman told me, this system does not have any wireless speakers. All speakers are wired, but the amplifier for two of the speakers is wireless connection from the Blueray unit.
In my case with an older Samsung big screen TV, the easiest hookup was via HDMI from the cable box into the Blueray unit with HDMI cable from Blueray into the TV with an electro optical cable from the TV back in to the Blueray. This is not shown on the instruction's connection graphics, but it is described.
The unit works well and can be heard over a house full of kids on sugar. The picture from the Blueray disks was very good with no skips or need to fuss once the system parameters are set up in the beginning. The menus for setup are fairly intuitive once you commit the icons to memory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by skimor Very nice system
We have been enjoying this system since August 2014. The smaller speakers fit nicely into the entertainment center yet produce a very good quality sound. It is a nice match with the flat screen TV. We are still learning how to use all the features. Sometimes the menus are a little confusing; there are many options and capabilities. There are quite a few Internet selections but most don't seem to have much desirable content. The preset audio mixes are adequate although the Concert Hall has too much echo for our taste and the Football mode doesn't impress. It would be nice if you could change the channels on the Sony TV with the Sony sound system remote. We have had some difficulty with the bluetooth feature. Maybe we are not using it correctly? Overall, this system adds a lot to the entertainment experience and we are quite happy with it.

This unit is very hard to understand and use. The menu's are hard to get to and not very instructive. If you don't have the book hang it up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Fibonacci A nice surprise with some small flaws
Good sound and looks like it will work well as an all in one receiver/bluray player for a theater room. I have this coupled with a new 3d projector and the 3d movies are wonderful. The sound is probably the best part about this system...small speakers but great surround sound. It is also excellent paired with a projector that does not have application capability. This baby makes up for what the projector lacks in application and navigatability means allowing for internet and app access through the remote.
The downside is the wireless speakers still are wired to an amp..so no they are not wireless. I am not sure how I am going to run the wires around my projector as to not have them noticable. It would have been better for them to have their own separate amps and just power plugs as you still must deal with the wires to the amp. I would rather have just needed to place them near power outlets and/or running extension cords rather than having to deal with the speaker wires and them as a 3 piece unit rather than 2 individual pieces. The speakers are also the special Sony connected speakers which means only those speakers can plug into the receiver. I don't think I will need to splice, but if I did this would make it harder. The machine also is a little weird looking and awkard to replace the disc. You also can't view the display unless you are standing over it. Other features I wish it had was multitasking with sound aka being able to run thru the menu while still keeping the dvd player sound or fm radio, etc running. Also, from what I can tell there is no 5ghz wifi capability and it's not picking up either of my dual band wireless upstairs. Granted, my phone also has a tough time picking it up through the concrete walls. I just bought a range extender, so will see if it does the trick. I also wish the remote had actual function buttons. Why is there a Netflix button but no FM radio button? Why Netflix and not Amazon Prime or Hulu for instance...seems a marketing attempt that took away from functionality. Now instead of just hitting FM I have to toggle through a "function" button, but if I want instant Netflix, the powers that be at Sony deemed it acceptable as a one click instant access button.
Overall, the sound of the speakers and application menu which takes the place of the menu navigation the new televisions offer make it a good product and worth 4 out of 5 stars in my book. If the wireless speakers were a little more wireless and some of the smaller more functionality issues were addressed this would be an excellent product.

The Sony Blu-Ray HTS is incredible. It was like being at the Super Bowl without the hassle. The sound and clarity are unmatched. The Blu-Ray player works flawlessly with depth of picture and color unlike anything I have experienced. And the online selection of entertainment is unmatched as well. I highly recommend purchasing a Sonly HTS. No one will regret it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MaxN Good System
The system is good value, easy to instal, and has very decent audio. It plays Netflix, Pandora, etc; thus removing the need to have Roku or the like. With good HDMI cables, it even improved the picture and audio quality of Netflix and Directv programs. I've had to disconnect it from power source a few times, to reboot due to system-failure issues--such as no audio from external input (Directv). All things considered, it's a neat unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ajmars1 Excellent sound quality, good value, NOT wireless
I bought the BDV 5200W model and have set up in my home. This is a very good quality system with lots of great features. Even the FM radio sounds like a Bose without paying the high price for it. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good quality home theater system without breaking the budget.
Buyers beware- rear speakers are NOT wireless. The amplifier system allows you to plug into a different outlet, but wires are still used to power the rear speakers from the amplifier. I bought this unit thinking the rear speakers were battery powered, which they are not.
