Rated 1 out of 5 by junebug Bad Product
If you are reading this, then they DO put in the bad reviews as well as the good. I have an extensive tape selection and I have had to replace my first sony explod, because the tape player was defective. Got the second one home and the tape player wouldn't work. I have to literally hold down the play button to get sound. It plays but I have to hold play button down to get any sound. They had rebuilt ones discounted in store for same reason. Bought it at Best Buy. I can't play volume over five because of the distortion. Second stereo, the base is a little distorted. So improve the sound quality, recall the sony explod and repair the cassette tapes and send me something in my e-mail to rectify the situation, and the bad word of mouth will turn into good. Other than that I am proud to own and display my sony explod. All my electronics are sony and other than this product all are distortion free and of high quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mdog how much did I pay for this?
this is great! I have almost no complaints exept the wiegt. plus it more than likely will distort at a low volume if the song has alot of bass. but a great part is the fact that the sub woofer can bee turned down of off. its portable........sort of weight is an isue if you want partability, the plus side is its handle is huge! my second faavorite part is the looks, i mean they just scream! my favorite part is the bass, wow its alot. the air hole in the back is like a bass bomb. and its one of the very few casset payers aviable...... but you wont problebly use that any way. best of all the pirce is around 100 bucks and it sounds more like 200.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AAGF Excellent overall
It's big. It's heavy. It sounds excellent! It even has a couple of features I didn't see mentioned; like a headphone socket and a built in cable to run your MP3 / iPod or whatever.
It needs a better LCD display - it's hard to read due to size and lack of backlight - that's really the only disappointment with this unit.
I would buy it again in spite of the minor drawbacks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by diarci Good unit with reservations
I needed a portable CD/MP3 player with good quality sound for playing classical music. I did my research and narrowed the choice to the Sony G700 and the JVC Kaboom. What finally decided me was the price difference - the JVC is over $100 more. Many reviews of the G700 mentioned the Tape Player as being very bad, but I won't be playing tapes. I ordered through SonyStyle instead of Amazon because I was able to get a 3-yewar extended warranty for $14.99.
The sound is very good with all the volume I will ever need. The unit is far bulkier and clumsier to carry than I imagined (I could find NO local retail stores that carried it - including the Sony store in Denver) so I wasn't able to see it before ordering. But the handle is also huge so carrying is less a problem than finding a place to store it when not in use.
The only sound customization controls are 5 push-button choices and a Power Drive woofer control. I leave mine set at Flat because there is no noticeable difference between any of the options.
The remote control is small but works well. One big complaint is that there is no way to go directly to a specific track. Forward and backward arrows work, but there are no number buttons. And the display screen is small, poorly lit, and almost impossible to read at distances over a foot.
Conclusion: I'm reasonable satisfied, but I think I probably should have spent the extra $100 for the JVC.

Rated 5 out of 5 by THETCBMAN AWESOME BOOMBOX
THIS IS MY SECOND SONY EXPLODE.
I AM A TRIM CARPENTER.
MY FIRST ONE WAS ON CONSTRUCTION JOBS FOR FIVE YEARS, EXPOSED TO DUST ON A DAILY BASIS. DUST BLOWN OUT OF UNIT WITH AIR HOSE AT END OF EACH DAY.
I PLAYED CD'S AND THE RADIO CONSTANTLY, WITHOUT FAIL FROM THE UNIT. THE FIRST BOOMBOX SERVED ME WELL UNTIL A HEAVY SOLID ENTRY DOOR WAS DROPPED ON IT.
EVEN THEN THE UNIT CONTINUED TO PLAY, BUT WAS CRACKED.
I RETIRED THAT UNIT AND PURCHASED THIS NEW BOOMBOX.
I PURCHASED THIS UNIT IN MAY,2011.
IT IS NOW 12/02/2013, AND IT HAS BEEN USED EVERYDAY SINCE, ON MY JOBSITES.
SOUNDS GREAT AND WORKS PERFECTLY.
MY SON HAS THE OLD BOOMBOX IN HIS GARAGE, IT STILL PLAYS CD'S

I've had this older Xplod model for several yrs now for work so I can listen to my mp3. I'm very happy with sound & aux jack, but it's too bulky from your much older models. There are appx. 6 employees here at my work with your Xplod radio but don't even use it's radio, cd & cassette player. We only use it for our mp3's. Can't you come up with a radio with it's awesome sound but bring it down in size and KEEP THE AUX JACK for mp3's.
