Graphics (Video Card)

How do dedicated graphics effect PC performance? Dedicated graphics (also called "GPU" or "video card") is critical for use with programs that have intense video graphics, which many of today's games and other media do. If your video card gets overloaded, your processor will borrow memory from your PC RAM which will result in slower reaction time, especially if your are running other applications. So, the more memory you have on your video card, the less your processor will have to borrow to display graphics, which will ultimately lead to better overall performance.

Hard Drive (Storage)

The hard drive is where permanent data is stored, such as applications, documents, music, photos, etc. The larger the drive, the more data that can be stored. If you are storing large amounts of pictures, music and movies, for example, a large capacity drive is recommended.

The number of "rpm"s (or revolutions per minute) dictate how fast your hard drive can spin. Higher rpm means faster read and write times, which mean faster overall performance.

Solid state drive technology differs from a conventional hard disk drive in that it has no moving parts. This means that solid state drives are more durable and less prone to the damage, such as scratching, that can sometimes occur over time in hard disk drives. Solid state drives also tend to provide faster boot-ups and overall speedier performance. Because of its enhanced durability, a solid state drive is an ideal option for people who plan to travel frequently with their laptop.
