Optical Drive

DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive
The drive is capable of burning to Rewritable DVD media. There are currently two types of Rewriteable DVD technology: DVD-RW and DVD+RW. This drive supports reading and writing of both of these media types. In addition, this drive supports the DVD±R Double layer standard.

The hard drive is where permanent data is stored--applications, documents, all your permanent information. Although disks may be used to store info, they are backups, with the hard drive as the primary storage area. This is different from RAM, which loses its memory when the computer is shut off, and starts anew the next time the computer starts.

Recent computers come with very large hard drives, with the capacity measured in gigabytes. The larger the hard drive, the more data that can be stored - keep in mind that pictures and videos take up a surprisingly large amount of hard drive space.

The number of "rpm"s (or revolutions per minute) dictate how fast your hard drive can spin. Higher rpm means faster read and write times, which mean faster performance in moving files and general system performance.

Solid State Drive

The Z series offers a Solid State Drive for customers who want enhanced speed and durability. A solid state drive can replace the typical spinning hard disk drive found in most PC's. Faster and more durable, the SSD provides a rapid boot-up and can launch applications at 2 to 3 times the speed of a hard disk drive.

Memory

RAM is what stores the current data, applications in use and operating system so that the computer can quickly access that information. The more RAM the computer has, the easier and quicker it will be able to operate many programs (including memory intensive programs) at the same time.

Dual memory RAM configurations utilize two pipes to feed data to the processor, thereby being able to deliver up to twice the data of a single pipe.
