Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. 3D Sweep Panorama™ Mode

Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television⁷. Records both JPEG and MPO file formats.

Auto HDR

High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography captures more scene contrast than a single exposure can handle by combining the best highlight detail from one shot and the best shadow detail from another for one incredible shot. (Recommended for still subjects.)

Accepts non-Sony lenses via adaptor

You can use the camera with a universe of lenses from Canon, Nikon, Leica, Olympus and others. Object Tracking AF

Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus.

Peaking function

Manual focus becomes much easier because peaking highlights the edges that are in focus in your choice of three colors (white, red, or yellow). This is especially helpful during macro or portrait photography where your focus setting can make or break your shot.

6-image layering

Leverages the fast BIONZ® processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second, and then combine the data. The result is an incredible single image that controls blur in Anti-Motion Blur mode or gets cleaner, sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode.

Great Compact Camera It is the best camera I ever got, June 10, 2013

Remote shutter control interface A remote shutter control interface is a pretty important feature. Ask about this feature when buying a camera like this one or any camera you intend to use for creative photography. You cannot find this information in the specs on Nex cameras. I have always bought and owned Sony cameras with varying degrees of satisfaction, however I bought a Nex 3 and then (within 60 days of purchase) learned sometimes it is very important to use a remote shutter release. However the my camera did not have that interface. Very frustrating. A point and shoot you might not care, but cameras like DSLRs and Nex's you will care very much. June 8, 2013

Love at first shutter click I cannot say enough about this camera. The image quality is comparable to the world's best full size SLR's (including Sony's own), but it cost less than half the price of its full-size brethren. The NEX-7's nimble size, low weight, and amazing image quality has convinced me to shun full-sized cameras forever! With the new power zoom 18mm-200mm lens, professional quality video is also easy. In fact, amateurs may never need to change lenses with the new power zoom lens, Can't say enough good things about this camera. I have never been more satisfied with a camera purchase! May 5, 2013

excellent if you are like me. ready to move up a notch, but don't have any lenses or gear beyond a basic digital camera (a Canon G12) - and if you are not a pro, this camera and its peers will bring you far. its basic lens is useful for most general users. the criticisms i have seen seem to come from the Pros - guys who have a zeiss lens that uses a different mount. or folks who will never need a video camera built in. so.... if you are a pro, you may not need this. if not, it really does the job. small enough to fit in a coat pocket, but really ready for your best work. it will bring up your game all the way.
