Not So Portable Anymore
I have mixed feelings about Sony's newer Z2 ultra portable laptop. The older Z1 weighs 3 lbs but has everything built-in (AMD graphics, optical drive, ethernet/USB ports, HDMI/VGA) and no docking station. Sony's newest Z2 line weighs about 5-6 lbs by the time you carry the power dock and huge AC adapter with you.. Unfortunately, the power dock requires the AC adapter to use the extra features like the optical drive and AMD graphics. It makes more sense to purchase a portable USB blu ray drive that requires no power. If you need fast graphics like Photoshop or gaming requires you have no options but to use the power dock. Sony should redesign this notebook so that at least the AMD graphics and ethernet port are built-in. On the positive side this notebook boots up to Windows 7 in 30 seconds and is fast enough for business software.

Love my Sony Computers
This year I have bought both a L-Series Desktop and a Z-Series Laptop and have been 100% satisfied with my purchases. I can't imagine having a better experience than what I have had with both of these computers. Every aspect of my purchase has met my expectations. In the past I have purchased both a Lenovo and a HP, I am hooked, no other computer performs better than a Sony!!!!!

Interesting Concept
For anyone that is contemplating a MacBook Air or this, just know that this laptop has better quality parts than the best MacBook Air. The cheapest version of this is roughly $200 more than the MacBook Air but contains much better features such as a faster process with Turbo Boost Technology, more internal ram, internal solid state memory, WINDOWS 7, 1920 x 1080 true HD screen vs Mac's 1440 x 900 which they claim is a high definition screen. Apple also likes to use outdated parts and charge full price for them. If you think I am simply writing this to bash on Macs, go out and do some research before criticizing my opinions. Don't get me wrong, Macs have their own lasting value, for one, they are usually very solid with little problems in function, and are quite beautiful in design.
Now for the downsides, there are several. The keyboard gets worn out fast, the buttons are difficult to press, the external dock needs a power cord, sometimes it doesn't take in the DVD or installing programs basic programs such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Word create a black screen and freezes up, the fan is way too loud, and it is not very scratch resistance considering how expensive this laptop is. I figured for the price, we would receive a product that would have better durability as well as proper, if not flawless functionality.
I love Sony products and I have been using their computers since the release of Pentium 4, when they were one of the first manufacturers to release computers with Hyper-Threading Technology - which is now referred to as the Turbo Boost. I have to say that I have never been completely satisfied with their products. You may be wondering why I continue to purchase their nearly perfect but always dysfunctional personal computers. It is because they provide the most powerful parts and innovative design concepts. Honestly, any computer you buy will have problems but this particular model seems to have too many flaws for it to of any lasting value.

Fusion of Art and Technology
Ok, if it?s hard to see the value in a Ferrari or even a Rolex, then it may be hard to justify the value of this Vaio. Everything seems to have been well thought out, even up to the second power supply on the dock. I usually have to buy an extra one every time I get a new laptop. I use the dock at the office and the ac adaptor at home.
There are many laptops at a fraction of the price that can perform as well as this, but nothing gets close to the design. I owned the Vaio X and the design was GREAT, but the substance was not there. So when I saw this I felt the fear of a nice piece of equipment with the lack of performance. I was wrong.
It is so enticing to work on this computer due to its look and feel ? (the black levels and colors on the screen to the dimming keyboard). I even had to write this review just as an excuse to use it! The next step I see is if there was a way to maximize on the screen size and make the bezel a lot thinner. It?s about an inch on all sides, if it was thinner, this would be a masterpiece!
