Great until the SSD drives failed. Love the laptop, have enjoyed it so far. However, I didn't expect to start having issues with the SSD drives within 4 months of purchase. I paid a premium thinking it would equate to better reliability than I'd seen from other PC vendors but that doesn't seem to be the case. It will of course get get serviced and life will go on, but still very disappointing. August 27, 2011
As stated in the first review, this laptop is very nice. The matte black finish doesn't show fingerprints and is magnesium alloy which is very durable. I have the maxed out model, and this machine can do anything that I can throw at it. There is a minimum of bloatware installed and it is easily removed. In order for me to get what I wanted I ended up with the model that has a BD drive, which isn't really useful for me. It was pricey. The major downfall is the docking station. You will get terrible banding with the VGA connection, but I found that swithching to HDMI fixes it. The dock doesn't engage in firm manner, so it takes a little bit of guess work to get it positioned. Overall I give this a major thumbs up and I predict I will be satisfied with this machine for a while. April 29, 2011
Best Laptop available considering features & price First the positive. I looked at a ton of super lightweight laptops and Sony was definitely the best, even over the new Macbook Pro, which was my 2nd choice. I really wanted the Z-series but they stopped selling them right when I was ready to buy! I have the 256 Gb SSD hard drive which is awesome. Start up time is 30 seconds, and coming out of sleep mode is immediate. Response time with all Adobe products and Microsoft Office products is very good. I will also be partitioning and installing Ubuntu LInux as well. The USB 3.0 port is fantastic hooked up to my 2TB Seagate GoFlex drive. The only reason I did not give a five star rating is because the video out is so poor (AMD Radeon HD 6630M and Intel Graphic HD 3000) , as is the docking station option. I use the laptop all day from a docking station as a replacement to a desktop computer, so I expect it to work just a well there as when I'm in a coffee shop getting business done on the run. The native screen is crisp and clear, easy to read, but connected to a monitor (Dell 2407FP# you get terrible horizontal banding as if it was a refresh rate problem - even though all the settings are by-the-book correct #even tried multiple resolutions and refresh rate settings). The Docking station has no power buttion, and no cd/dvd eject button - you have to open the top for both. You also have to guess at setting the laptop on it properly, and even when you get it right it doesn't feel like it is in there very securely. For the amount of money I paid for this laptop I expected better on these items. In the end, I would still purchase this again. April 12, 2011
