i bought this tv around march. It is one the best tv's ive seen. great picture and quality. love it. lots of ports so u can run out of hookups. i have so many things running into it. i give this 8 * if i could.

A good but not great TV
I replaced a 46" Sony projection TV with the new Sony Bravia 55." I like the Bravia's color and sharpness. The brightness is not as good as I had anticipated. That being said, it is at least 70% brighter than my old projection model. The cabinet is incredibly thin, even compared with my wife's 2- year-old Sony TV. The remote is easy to use and efficient. The wireless adapter offers a link to so many different pay and free services #Netflix, Amazon, Sony, etc.# that after three months of use, I still haven?t had time to explore half of them. The TV has a motionflow sensor, to keep the picture sharp, even with plenty of movement. It has an ambient room light sensor that adapts the brightness to room lighting conditions. It even has a sensor that will turn the TV off after there has been no movement in the room for a set amount of time. In essence, this TV is virtually state-of-the-art. The owners? manual is built into the TV and user friendly.
The Wireless connectivity problem has had me unnerved. In fact, it was a nightmare. We were using a new Linksys Wireless G router, no more than 30' from the new TV #with no metal in between#. I could not keep the Internet connection going for more than a few minutes at a time. The picture stopped to buffer very often. Finally, the wireless adapter simply crapped out completely and would not connect #"could not find the server," which was our nearby router#. My local Sony dealer was not able to help, except to recommend a Wireless-N router. Although our Wireless-G router was relatively new, I purchased a new Wireless N router. There was still no joy on an Internet connection. Meanwhile, I had lost almost two months of my six-month Netflix gift. I called Sony's hotline for help and spent more than an hour with a woman who was unable to connect my TV with the Internet. We tried virtually every possible way to connect the wireless adapter, with no luck. She put me on hold, in an effort to find a technician with more experience. As you might expect, after about ten minutes, the line went dead and I was on my own again. Just before giving up on an Internet connection for good, I tried the only remaining way to connect the wireless adapter to a router. It's something called a "WPS" connection, which requires you to set the TV on a timed search for a local signal, while running back to your wireless-N router to push a button. To my utter shock, it worked. And it has been working, without buffering, in the two weeks since then. Essentially, I had to fix the problem on my own.
Finally, the access to the TV's USB and HDMI ports, on the side of the cabinet, is in a poor location for me. My TV resides inside of a huge laminated entertainment center. It's tucked in so tightly that I could not access the USB and HDMI ports #or the back panel RCA port, or the side panel on-off switch#. We had to have a carpenter design special laminated panels on both sides of the TV that are held in place with magnets, permitting access to the ports. Even with the pull-out panels, I can't see the side ports and switches. I must feel for them. And if I drop the wireless adapter while installing it or pulling it out #to use a camera with the TV#, it will become lost inside of the vast center of the entertainment complex. It would be impossible to reach back there without dismantling the entertainment center. Would it have been too difficult to place the ports and switch on the front or under the front panel?
In conclusion, my new 55" Sony Bravia has excellent color and sharpness. One can view the TV without losing picture quality at very severe angles. The brightness is good, but not impressive. Access to HDMI and USB ports is poor for anyone who installs their Bravia into a tight entertainment center. And if you?re lucky enough to have your wireless adapter work properly, it provides a wide array of Internet service, including Netflix and You Tube. This is an excellent television that would be near perfect with a little more brightness and a better wireless adapter #at least for me#.

Amazing!
Ladies & Gentlemen: This one's for both of you. The setup for this TV is so easy I did it entirely by myself. My fiance ' was amazed. He couldn't believe it. I have not changed the audio or video settings since I purchased it a month ago. I'm impressed with the natural, real, rich colors-particularly outdoor settings. The indoor colors are equally amazing. All of the colors are so vivid & distinct. The bluest blue & greenest green. Watching the NBA, pre-season MLB, the PGA and March Madness is sweet with this TV. The skin tones are perfect. I had to turn down the bold volumn through our home theatre surround. This TV is beautiful with any decor. I absolutely LOVE this TV.

A mini theater for my bedroom.
I upgraded to this model from the 46EX500 and i'm glad i did. I thought the set would have been too large for my 13 x 17 bedroom but i was wrong. i sit about 6 1/2 feet from my tv and the view is perfect. I didn't have to do much tweaking at all when i hooked it up the picture was perfect right out the box.
The sound is questionable because some programs the sound is good and on other programs you have to turn it up. i would recommend getting small external speakers for that extra kick but, on a scale of 1-10 i would say the speakers are about a 7.5
This Model comes with the ambient sensor and the presence sensor, i turned both off personally because the ambient sensor makes the screen have a haze and once it is turned off it looks much clearer, and the presence sensor is not needed really because with this set you will hardly be away from it for that long..
The Appts are nice but if you really don't listen or watch the provided options now, then more than likely you won't bother to use them once you get it. Netflix is probably the only Appt that will be used to be honest and maybe one for the weather but these days your DVR can give appts and on demand movies so this is just extras really. Nice though but it wasn't the selling point for me.
I have an Xbox360 for gaming and it really makes the experience much better.
I always wanted a 50 inch HDTV for movies and gaming and this was a nice choice and it transfromed my room into a little mini theater because it don't look like a "tv" it looks more like a projector screen but better.
I didnt get the 3D model because to be honest i don't like watching tv with glasses on. Nice feature but don't see the need for it really. This however is a nice looking model and so far i'm enjoying it very much.
