Great laptop for every situation, best I've owned!
First, let's start off with my only compaint... the lack of seperate volume bottons. To adjust the volume you must press Function + F3 or F4. This can be cumbersome not to mention difficult to explain to your children when their movie is too loud. Not many younger children will know how to press Function + F3 to lower the volume. Seperate volume buttons near the play button would be beneficial. Other than the lack of seperate volume buttons, this laptop is amazing. The construction is solid and made of good materials. The laptop is not heavy but you can tell it's not all cheap plastic parts either as it has some weight to it. The keyboard is one of the best aspects, the keys are perfectly spaced. When typing, you don't feel like your fingers are squished to fit the keyboard. The small space between each key makes typing much easier as well as you don't hit two keys at once like on other keyboards. The backlit keyboard is one of those features you show off when showing someone your new laptop. It automatically comes on when the room is dark but only stays lit for a few seconds after you stop typing so not to drain your battery. Start typing again and the backlight comes back on. It's great when using the laptop at night or on a plane. In well lit conditions, the backlight stays off. Opt for the HD screen, it is well worth the additional investment. Blu Ray movies are amazing on the HD screen, just as good as an HDTV. On some laptops when the lid is closed the screen rubs agains the keyboard causing scratches on the screen over time. Sony has solved this with bumpers on the keyboard and screen frame keeping the screen off the keyboard when closed. I was very happy to see this. The speakers are clear and have good volume, although not much bass, which is to be expected in small laptop speakers. The eSata plug is great as it is one of the fastest ways to backup the laptop onto an external hard drive. The HDMI plug allows you to plug the laptop direclty into your HDTV to display movies, photos, video, or presentations. Just plug in an HDMI cable and the laptop display pops up on your HDTV! Hit the "display off" button on your keyboard and the laptop display turns off leaving the HDTV display on, they thought of everything. I upgraded to the extended battery and get 4-5 hours out of each charge when using the laptop for general work. Playing movies in the Blu Ray player will lessen the battery life but you can play a full movie in most situations. My last laptop was a different name brand but this Sony laptop is built better in every way. Even the charging cord is built better. I had to replace the charging cord twice on my last laptop. This cord is thicker, more firm, and is indicative of how well the entire laptop has been constructed. I've had this laptop for about two months and have found everything to be to my satisfaction (except the volume buttons but that is a very small inconvenience). When researching my purchase, I went to numerous websites and reviewed each option available on their laptops and found I got the most for my buck with this Vaio, not to mention it came with some added extras (software bundle) that other laptops didn't offer. Overall this a great, well-built laptop and I would recommend it to anyone.

Great High Performance Laptop!
We bought this computer for our 16 yr. old son and he loves the power for all his games. This laptop is set up perfectly for all your high performance needs, I highly recommend it. This is the 2nd Sony laptop in our home and the 1st one has been trouble free for over a year. The F-Series laptop we just purchased has some very easy to use tune-up and maintenance features that all users will find useful. You can't go wrong with this Sony computer.
