High-speed continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second.

Thanks to their powerful Exmor CMOS image sensor and BIONZ image processing engine, both these cameras can offer high-speed continuous shooting at up to 7 fps (approx.) in Speed Priority Continuous mode*, and at up to 2.3 fps (approx.) in Continuous Advance mode. In addition, their 10-second self-timer also has a 3-shot continuous shooting setting.

*Focus, exposure, and white balance are locked at the first shot. Continuous speed varies according to shooting conditions and memory cards used.

Hand-held Twilight mode for clearer imaging in low light.

This unique Scene Selection mode takes six shots* at high speed when the shutter is pressed, and then aligns and merges them into a single image, significantly reducing the graininess and noise that can degrade image quality when shooting in extremely low light. Combined with the outstanding low-noise performance of the Exmor CMOS image sensor, it lets you take exceptionally clear, beautiful, nighttime photos without using a tripod or flash.

There's no need to fumble with menu settings when you want to shoot a movie — recording can be started or stopped simply by pressing the dedicated MOVIE button.

When you're shooting movies in AF mode with an E-mount lens, the camera smoothly adjusts focus and exposure in response to changes in the scene, and you can use the control wheel to instantly adjust exposure compensation on the fly. Automatically apply exposure values and Scene Selection modes that are optimized to suit each scene. What's more, they combine this full-auto convenience with a Background Defocus Control function that lets you enjoy one of the biggest creative advantages of interchangeable lens photography — the ability to defocus the background to make your main subject stand out from the scene. Just press and rotate the control wheel to set the level of background defocusing you want — it's easy and intuitive because you can confirm the level of defocusing on the LCD monitor in real-time.

*Defocusing effect varies according to lens, subject/background distance and other factors; not supported when using A-mount lenses.

Shooting tips to help you achieve your goals and boost your skills

In addition to basic Help Guide information, these cameras are also equipped with built-in shooting tips. The tips provide information relevant to the current shooting situation or mode selection, and are designed with both beginners and more advanced users in mind. Two types of tip are offered: 1) tips about particular types of subject and scene, and 2) tips on general photographic technique. Since the entire library of shooting tips can also be accessed via the Camera menu and viewed as a single guidebook, it's like having a complete photography tutorial built right into your camera.

A graphical user interface that works the way you expect it to.

The main menu features six clearly labeled icons that can be selected simply by rotating and pressing the control wheel. Inside, standard scrolling menus provide quick access to settings for shooting and playback functions, as well as a host of other user preferences and camera settings. The wide-screen format of the LCD monitor also contributes to enhanced menu legibility, so text and icons are always easy to see and select.

ISO 12800 sensitivity

Anti Motion Blur mode

Corrects for subject movement to capture amazingly clean and sharp images in low light. The camera leverages the large, APS-C image sensor and captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six creates a single image that minimizes subject blur.

Live View LCD

The LCD monitor is active full-time for composing shots. Provides a what-you-see-is-what-you-get preview of white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure and 100% framing accuracy, plus informative on-screen displays.

Fast Auto Focus

Some cameras in this class are slow to focus. That can make you miss the shot on fast-moving subjects like sports and unpredictable subjects like pets and babies. Sony's fast Contrast Auto Focus system typically takes just 0.3 seconds. Also offers continuous Auto Focus when shooting movies.¹⁰

High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography captures more scene contrast than a single exposure can handle by combining the best highlight detail from one shot and the best shadow detail from another for one incredible shot. Great Camera Great camera for the money, nice lens options, lightweight, great screen that tilts for shooting over head, intuitive interface but the lack of a tethering option is a huge disappointment. It would be great to replace my Rebel with this camera but for professional photographers, tethering to your computer is essential. Maybe a firmware update Sony? January 4, 2012

Best Product I bought in 2011 After a long fight with my wife, finally I bought this camera. lolz. The major issue - she does not like ugly stone look complex lens changeable camera... However, when I show her this camera and magnificent pictures.. She loved it.. Truly speaking.. i am not camera expert. .but the easy operating, good looking and picture quality are really really awesome!!! This camera does not look cheap plastic case like other lens cameras. TRULY FIRST OF IT?S KIND ?.I AM LOVING IT No words to speak ?.If I have say something ,I would say one word awesome .I thought to buy NEX-7or NEX 5n .As I already have Nikon D3X and I was looking for portable light waited good performance near to DSLR and I mostly use manual mode. I came across beautiful piece of marvelous creation .I was as thrilled as when I got my first IPHONE. It has everything I needed may be higher up models have bit better sensor but I don?t care this is good enough and perfectly suited to my present needs for little handy one .Plastic casing was little bit annoying at first because should be more careful which is obvious but it turn it to super light weighted and easy to handle with one hand and most important it has perfect curvature to hold it firmly with single hand all the weight you feel is like holding 55mm len that perfect to me .And New piece cost less on other online sites. Using some internal and external flash and filters ND 3-400,ND graduated you can do wonders with this little one . November 3, 2011

Just buy it then thank me. Great camera as usual. These guys put out high quality products unlike some other countries. I trust Sony Name and you get great shots.
