Great Compact Camcorder Purchased from the Sony Style store with a great price match from a leading online retailer. At current $649 price it is worth the money, but still more expensive than Canon Vixia 31. Still chose it over the Canon for the following reasons, despite the better recording options and features available on the Canon. Compared to Vixia 31, the Sony felt better made, more solid and compact. The controls responded better, the touch screen was more responsive and easier to navigate. This made up for lack of more manual control features and the mic input available on the Canon. Believe it or not the Sony includes most features you need anyway and the Hot Shoe makes adding a video light or mic a breeze. The Sony accessories are lower priced than comparable Canon accessories. This makes up for this initial price disparity between them. The image stabilization works well, the zoom is smooth and the wide angle G lens is definitely more distinguishable than I thought it would be. I use a Mac with iMovie and Final Cut Express. I had no problems importing video. Be sure to disable the stabilization feature in iMovie, I believe this may have caused a glitch in some video that I imported. I have yet to use the direct copy feature, which I plan on using with an external hard drive. I have ordered the usb adapter for this function, as well as the VCT-60AV Tripod and HVL-HL1 Video Light form BH Photo which has excellent prices on Sony products. I will update my review findings when I have a chance to use them. Compare the whole package to a similar Canon package and you will find that there isn't much difference if you are concerned about the price of this camcorder and the available accessories. Great HD Camera Was looking to upgrade to something with good stabilization and picture quality, this camera exceeded my expectations. I do lots of under water videography and the image stabilization is incredible. Not to mention the excellent video quality of the HD, this camera really captures all the vibrant colors in the caribbean oceans. Recently recorded the 2010 IronMan race with great results, didn't even need a tripod like I did before. Allowed me to really move around easily and get some really good angles that I couldn't have gotten clearly with an older cam or with a tripod. December 10, 2010

Poor Photos/Snapshots, MAC community NOT supported For photos, there is a high level of color noise (even in well lit indoor conditions) despite the EXMOR technology for low lighting conditions. Also, there is a high level of purple fringing in photos even without a Clear/UV/Haze filter. I have given up on this unit as a photo/video all-in-one and use only the HD Video feature. Regarding HD Video, I have not been able to set it at 1080P x 1920 resolution. All .m2ts video formats I get are 1080x1440. You need the supplied "Picture Motion Browser" software (for Windows only) to download video files, simply copying files using USB will not work well. Deleting video files using USB will corrupt the system and you will need to reset. Video files must only be deleted directly on the camcorder. The PMB software is not available for the MAC community unfortunately. (SONY, please correct me if I am wrong in any of the items above). Overall, a real disappointment on still photos (even my old Sony P8 and W1 took better photos), Videos good but I was expecting full 1080p x1920 as the Webpage says. November 24, 2010

Recording made simple This Camera is so good and overall excellent in every way but I had trouble with when comes to holding the camera for long periods of time ( 3 to 4 hrs) leaving you wishing for a better way of holding the camera . Another issue is you must buy an extra battery if you don't want to miss any action with the family events or sports adventure I recommend you get an extra battery . Sony please make your software Mac Friendly , don't get me wrong it works but it takes time to figure it out , must imovie to import your videos and still pictures. Even with those smalll issues I highly recommend you buy this product . None is better in it's category superior Technology . October 29, 2010

2. This camera captures high definition footage in the AVCHD format. High Definition AVCHD discs can be created using standard DVD media, the supplied software and a compatible PC. DVD media containing AVCHD footage may be played on a compatible Blu-ray Disc™ player/recorder, PC with supplied software or PlayStation®3 devices.
