Sony listened & we reap the benefits!! Back in the spring I decided I wanted an ereader. After MUCH searching and reading reviews I decided on the Sony.So I went to Borders to actually use it.I tried both the non touch screen and the (old) touch screen.I really wanted the touch screen one because of the text sizing but it was not as clear as the non touch version.SO I decided to wait and see if Sony would fix the problem and they certainly did! The text is very crisp.Much more so than the older touch screen version.I have had mine for four days and I told my husband today that I think I have formed an unhealthy bond with my ereader because I was missing it while we were out(LOL). All the extras are great too.I especially enjoy the bookmarking and built in dictionary. If you don't know what a word means you tap it and the definition pops up! The music quality is way better than I expected.I downloaded the sounds of the ocean to listen to while I read and my husband watches golf.I love the touch screen apect of because it really comes in handy while Im riding my recumbant bike and my ereader is in the holder. It makes it much easier to read while working out!All in all I am thrilled that Sony has not only tweaked their ereader and made it better but they also lowered the prices on them too! Good job listening to your customers SONY!!! September 6, 2009
Wish I didn't see it No more Sony products ever :( April 18, 2011
Decent Device, Horrible Software Nothing good about this device can overcome my disgust with the software. I'm afraid to hook it up to my computer because it will either hang indefinitely or delete my purchased books from the reader. The only way I can get this to work semi-reliably is to put epub books from other sources on an SD card and remove the card whenever I connect to the computer while allowing only purchased books to sync up via the menus. Stay away if you are not computer savvy! February 24, 2011
Older PRS-600 still a champ I recently acquired a PRS-600. It is a very nice reader in good light. The cover/light combo needs a much brighter LED to be really useful for reading in the dark. I prefer to use a headlamp for more light. The software/reader library is not user friendly. I found it much easier to drag files to an SD Card in a card reader and then insert it. If you put too many books on a large capacity SD card it takes forever to boot up. However, I really like the reader concept, and have no need for WiFi, so this PRS-600 is great for me. The touch screen works well, and the visual quality of the text is great. It could use a wee bit more contrast, as compared to my husband's PRS-505 though. The screen reproduces b/w images well, and even does a fair job of converting color images to b/w. I also like the fact that Sony supports a variety of media formats, not just a proprietary one. I'm happy I bought it and if I decide to upgrade ever, I will look for a new Sony first. February 1, 2011
