Music fans will love the clear sound of the MDR-EX500LP earbud style headphones. The key technology is the closed-type, vertical in-the-ear 13.5mm driver unit, which allows for a larger driver with substantial sound while maintaining a comfortable fit over a long period of time. Offering crisp audio for the perceptive ear, these earbuds boast a newly developed multi-layer diaphragm which provides high-resolution sound and recognizes clear vocal, while keeping fair bass. In addition to being sound tuned by hand, these EX premium earbuds are constructed with metal to minimize vibration. The hybrid silicone earbuds consist of two kinds of silicone to help block noise by creating a close seal with the ear. Three sizes of ear cushions and a leather carrying case are also included.

Great Sounding EarBuds I purchased these back in Nov '10 from the Sony Store in Fashion Valley as an upgrade to the EX85LP's I had been using the past 3 years, withough fault until I lost sound in the right one. I would say I'm an above average user of headphones as I ride a streetbike and wear them under my helmet pretty much every ride I take, so I'm using them atleast 4-5 days per week at length. I was super happy with the 85's, and was unfamiliar with the term "burn in" until i purchased these 500's and was reading some previous reviews. Upon taking them out of th box and puting them in my ears to ride back home from the mall, I was pretty excited to try these out but didn't notice much sound improvement over my 85's right away. Still happy, but not sure it was worth extra $65. THEN after about 2 weeks of burning them in, the sound quality really started coming out and they are GREAT. Even walking to my bike yesterday, I turned on the tunes on my iphone and remember thinking, geez, these sound amazing. As a listener of many genres of music from hard rock, hip hop, R&B, classic rock to alternative, these cover all the bases with ease. I know they are pricey, but if you can afford, and take your music seriously I would definitely recommend. Hope thie helped. January 7, 2011
Good product, needs improvement I am someone who listens to music on a daily basis, so I need headphones that sound great and can be durable enough for constant use. When I first got the EX500LPs, I used them extensively, and they stood up to the rigor of my abuse (which is not much). I was throughly impressed by the clarity of sound that these headphones produced. After about 9 or 10 months of use, I was dismayed to see that the silicone connector, that is on the base of the right earbud, had broken off. Something this minor was fine by me, just as long as I could play my music. Anyway, I reduced use of the headphones, being more careful not to damage it further. However, 2 months later, I was playing music when suddenly the sound from the right earbud stopped working. There were no visible breaks in the wire, and besides the detached silicone connector it looked almost new. I tested the headphones on other devices and different frequency sounds with no avail. Finally I decided to get them serviced, even though they were out of warranty. When I got to Sony's service and repair webpage and searched for MDREX500LP, the search function could not find the product. I tried every variation of the name but it did no good. I am now left with ONE very expensive earbud, courtesy of Sony's unreliable products. This is an extremely fragile product, so think twice before buying it if you actually listen to music and use headphones. September 16, 2010
