Great sound for the price I upgraded from the DE series as I wanted HDMI passthrough support. I got a great open box deal on this and am very happy with it. Only problem is that it doesn't office upconvert as the DE series did, not even to component level output. June 8, 2009
BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! I may be expecting too much for my dollar, but this is actually a bargain deal. I am so excited with the many features it has compared to other brands. This is a great start for those who are new to home theater. February 26, 2009
Very Pleased Feature set, specifications and sound quality are excellent for the price; fit and finish is very good. I have this mated with a Sony HDTV and Sony BDS-350 blue ray player; they naturally all handshake well with one another. I have very few dislikes. I prefer a more detailed manual that better explains many of the more unique audio features. This unit wants to stay in stand-by mode which cannot be accessed via the unit physically. The front switch either turns it full on or full-off....a remote is needed to turn it to stand-by. Staying in stand-by allows all the HDMI inter-connectivity options to remain functional which I rely on....I would like there to be a manual way to temporarily over-ride the HDMI settings so if on the rare occasion I want to use the receiver to simply listen to music, I could do that without the TV wanting to also be on...I can adjust the HDMI settings to avoid that but the vast majority of time I do want the TV to turn on when the A/V amp is on ....I would like an esay temporary over-ride capability. One note of caution: make sure you set up the Sony BDS-350 to send "direct" audio to the amp to ensure you actually get DTS master audio 7.1 and Dolby True Audio 7.1 decoding by the receiver. The player defaults to a mixed format that sends LPCM digital data and in some cases this will not give you full discrete 7.1 level signals. January 14, 2009
Sony did it again 5 Stars "I also own the STR-DG720, I went to the 820 for the little extras this unit has like the extra HDMI. It has more then little extras, the sound is great. One thing read the Operating Instructions, to set it up right. For the price it cost other units don't come close, One thing buy good speakers and your sound will be great. I had no problem with the 720 I been using for the last 5 months. That is the main reason I bought the 820 and it was worth it.." January 9, 2009
