Firmware Update an EZ Fix The ONLY complaint I have is the slow boot process. I've had the unit a long time and am replacing it because my Sony home media box already contains a blu-ray player. While I admint to getting frustrated with the slow boot, I got used to it. The image quality is nothing short of wonderful. The firmware upgrade via download to CD had me a bit nervous, but went off without any problems. January 27, 2012
Slow, Old, but Still Good I have read a lot of these reviews and it sounds like most of the problems could be solved by a simple firmware update. Newer BluRay players have a Wi-Fi antenna built in so you can update the firmware with just a push of a button. However with this player, you have to download the firmware off the Sony site and burn it to disk. It's kind of a pain but I don't want to buy another player. But I agree that it is SUPER slow. Meh - very underwhelming but does the job I have had this player about 3 years now and agree with everyone else here who complains its incredibly (stupidly) slow to boot up, open tray, load movie, etc. However, it has played every Blu Ray and DVD disk I ever put into it. And the image quality is what you expect it to be, Blu Rays look outstanding and upconvert gives your old DVDs some new life. Once it starts acting up though, its telling me its time for a firmware update. Once I do update, its generally trouble free for a good 5-6 months. Just SLOW! October 1, 2011
Sony BDP S300 My player reports a firmware update is needed to play movies. I follow the instructions in preparing an update on CD, but the player will not pick up the file, showing the message, "Disc cannot be played". It will play the movie previews, then stops and will not play the movie. June 11, 2011
