BACKGROUND: Okay so I've been using the GoPro Hero 2 for almost a year now and it has great features, great image, and great overall functionality but... All these great things were hit and miss. Their firmware updates are horrible. When we went on a snowboarding trip it would freeze up, and I'd have to do battery pulls etc. Then it wouldn't recognize my class 10 SD card. Then it wouldn't even turn on with full battery. Read up and you'll see a lot of other people saying the same things on the Hero 3's. It was a waste of $299. Anyways GoPro replaced it and I sold it as soon as I got it back and bought the Action Cam.
REVIEW: Out of the box was pretty straight forward. I like the micro usb for charging since that's what my phone uses. So far I like the white balance compared to GP and the Image Stabilization, that thing is amazing. The case is kind of faulty in the fact that you can only do instant ON OFF recording. It's simple and heavy duty. Can't access any settings in there though, maybe the WiFi one can. There is quite a bit more glare from the sun than the GP but it isn't too bad. The low light image sensor is a nice feature but I was expecting a little more out of it. Not to proud of the location of the ports. It's a round camera and has a cover that folds out to the side so you can't stand it up. Battery life is better than the GP I've noticed. The fact that these cameras have firmware updates is bad a** because they're always working to make it better. Since out of the box it now has 1080 at 60 fps and some variations in beep functions and finally a fix on the underwater white balance.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I want a camera that is going to work when I need it to and that was the deal breaker for GP. With the added firmware update the Sony in my experience is the better camera. Now let's see some more mounts!

Don't Do it. Wait for ver 2.
We literally had this unit for 5 mins of pictures... but the optional and very expensive underwater door (the default door cannot focus under water you have to pay a premium for the flat door) is very very clunky to use.
The enclosure fogs up very quick, faster than any other underwater cam I have owned, prob. due to size - and found the tiniest bit of water was getting in - literally drops. We removed it from water immediately, tried to dry it out and unit is dead. For an action cam used as an action cam you have no warranty - because water/scuffs/drops void the warranty. They should seal the electronic bits in wax for cushion and water proofing.
The GoPros are bigger, but because of that don't fog up as quick, and you don't have to buy an extra door. Everyone told us not to buy the Sony because they had no UW white balance setting - we did anyway and now we get told to throw it away and buy another - because of Sony's poor design.
We literally have 3 mins of video for nearly 400 bucks of gear.
Wait for series 2 maybe they will integrate the UW door, until then, it's a HUGE expense to throw away after a few minutes - and those useless accessories are very expensive for what they are and their design is not good. I cannot recommend this unit to anyone - used primarily for Underwater with all their legit accessories - it fails miserably and they won't back their product used as it was intended. Wait for version 2 or buy another brand.

carrying case
I got mine a few days back and i am yet to try the underwater snorkeling, so far i sumerged it on my GF's fish tank and there was no leak.
What is the carrying case i am suppose to get?

don't waste your money
This camera works fine as long as you are in a temperature controlled environment. Every time we have taken it out on the road, it will not work because it apparently is overheated. Yesterday, the high was 80 degrees! When I turned it on this morning (in the house), it once again worked just fine. An action camera that will not work if the temperature is over room temperature is of absolutely no use to us.
