I Love this TV
I researched several types of the Sony TV's, went stores looking then waiting on sales. It has proven my research and patience. I have used it now for over a month and I have nothing but good things to say. The picure is GREAT and the set-up was simple. This is money well spent.

The best in class Feb 2013
A large investment - yes. But like any large investment, the last thing you want is to ask after a few weeks - "Maybe i should have paid more for a better one". This is something which is going to last years until the 4K TV is standard and we have sources recorded in 4K, non of this artificial interpolated nonsense. Plus the cost of 4K TV is going to waaay too high - if available in 55" that is. By the time 4K TV is popular the technology of 4K now will be very dated.
Like many others, i looked at the HX850 55"..looks excellent and was top of the list for me. But in the showroom there was a HX950, i auditioned both from the same source and it was obvious why the premium.
The contrast is just so much better in dim scenes, if you watch movies on blueray/dvd and appreciate details then the HX950 delivers the "cream" - like froth on your expresso :-) It's like listening to standard headphones and moving on to audiophile headphones - you don't know what you are missing until you experienced it!
The competitors also do very good top end (similar to HX850)..but HX950 still is king for me anyway. People who say blooming problems etc..check out some forums where experts has the settings tuned to perfection after hours/days of experimenting - plus i do not look at the white logo of a spinning object all day long.
3D was admittedly not the best of the crop - off horizontal did show some flaws and flickers. The depth of the 3D was improved by some contrast settings (dedicated forums..) t But considering i have only four 3D movies in blueray - it was not a killer for me.
If you want the best, feel sexy and proud to own a sexy TV + willing to play around and research the best settings - this is for you.
Be the envy of your friends - get the HX950 or be the envier of your friend who owns the HX950.

The *Best* LED TV ever made
This is the best LED TV ever made. I work in a big box store and sell TV's all day. This XBR HX 950 and the Panasonic VT50 are the best TV's on the market.
This TV is beyond any other LED, even LED's that are much more expensive. It looks better than all the plasma's I have seen, other than the VT50 series.
Personally I think that the HX950 produces better colors and deeper blacks than the VT50, but to each his/her own.
SONY is the only company that has created an LED TV that looks like a plasma! This was always thought to be impossible!
I finally purchased this TV after selling it for a few months. I'm thoroughly impressed, and I hope Sony will continue to prove that they are still the best.

Exceptional Quality
I purchased this TV from Sony early October and have been very pleased since. Over all quality and experience have been outstanding. There are some issues with the boot up time of certain applications. It would be nice for the kids to just press the Netflix button on the remote and begin watching after turning it on but it takes several minutes to begin working. The menues are a bit convoluted at times, it was not intuitive at all to find where to turn off Overscan. [Home Menu > Settings > Picture and Display > Screen > Auto Display Area ?Off? > Display Area ?Full Pixel. Thats right, not in options > picture adjustments...] There is a bit of tweaking you will need to do to get the picture perfect, this is due to the local-dimming I think but well worth the effort. Changing the LED Dynamic Control setting to Low will help a great deal with the "Halos" you will see people mention. If you are shopping around do not make the mistake of comparing this TV to anything less than local-dimming. If picture quality is your goal then you will need to pay more for it...
