Pro HD in the palm of your hand.

Go far beyond the conventional with Sony's first handheld camcorder to offer XDCAM® HD422 recording. The PMW-100 captures up to twice the color information of most consumer camcorders, plus features manual lens control, Slow and Quick motion, selectable gamma curves and more. With its single 1/2.9" Full HD Exmor® CMOS sensor, the PMW-100 is able to achieve high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise and wide dynamic range in a small, compact camera.

Extraordinary color detail of 4:2:2.

The camera's MPEG HD422 50 Mbps recording system is widely accepted in broadcasting and production houses, and for good reason. While consumer camcorders tend to capture 4:1:1 or 4:2:0 color sampling, the system's 4:2:2 sampling has up to twice the color information. It's a benefit you'll see especially on crisp, sharp-object edges—for example, where a red blouse meets a background of green trees. For this reason, 4:2:2 sampling also excels in greenscreen and bluescreen composited images.

A true professional.

Though small in size, the PMW-100 camcorder has serious production credentials: time code with user bits, balanced XLR mic inputs (mic sold separately), switchable phantom power and true input level controls.

Manual lens control.

This camcorder is equipped with a bright, sharp 10x optical zoom lens that extends from 40mm wide angle to a far-reaching 400mm telephoto (35mm equivalent). There's manual lens control with an assignable ring that operates focus or zoom, plus a second control for exposure brightness.

Incredible images.

The PMW-100 offers options once limited to Sony's high-end broadcast camcorders. Like compelling Slow and Quick motion, and Interval Recording for gorgeous time-lapse effects. Slow Shutter extracts pictures in ultra-low light with a fascinating motion blur. Cache recording captures 15 seconds of material before you hit record. And NightShot® recording acquires images in the absence of visible light using the camera's built-in infrared LED as a light source.

Professional SxS memory cards.

The PMW-100 camcorder records on Sony's ultra-reliable SxS PRO and SxS-1 professional memory cards (sold separately). They feature high-speed data transfer to keep your projects moving in post production. For emergency backup when you're out on a shoot, you can also record onto optional Memory Stick®, SD or XQD cards using the appropriate adaptors (sold separately).

HD/SD-SDI, HDMI and i.LINK interfaces.

Thanks to a generous array of interfaces, the PMW-100 works seamlessly with an incredibly broad ecosystem of professional, prosumer and consumer equipment. Secured by a locking BNC connector, the SDI interface supports HD and downconverted SD output to professional monitors and recorders. You can connect a consumer television via HDMI cable (sold separately). The i.LINK® terminal supports HDV or DV signals, depending on operating mode1.

The Sony PMW-100 handheld camcorder features a 1/2.9" Full HD Exmor CMOS sensor for high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise and wide dynamic range in a small, compact camera. With high-quality MPEG HD422 (50 Mbps) recording capability widely accepted in broadcasting and production houses, it's perfect for newsgathering and documentary making. The system's 4:2:2 sampling has up to twice the color information of most consumer camcorders and excels in greenscreen and bluescreen composited images. Though small in size, the PMW-100 offers a variety of features for the professional user, like manual lens control, time code with user bits, balanced XLR mic inputs (mic sold separately), switchable phantom power and true input level controls.
