Capture exquisite audio.

Enjoy excellent sound performance at a great value with the Sony ECM‐MS2 stereo microphone. Perfectly sized for your professional handheld camcorder, its short length and compact dimensions prevent unintended vignetting of the mic into the video frame—plus, it's easy to pack and carry. Two XLR 3‐pin outputs enable connection to professional camcorders for 48‐volt phantom powering. Switch between stereo and mono operation for ultimate flexibility whether on location or in the studio. The included windscreen is helpful on windy days, while a supplied cable tie can be used to secure the unplugged mic cable during mono operation.

Sized for handheld camcorders.

With a short, compact size, the ECM‐MS2 mic is perfectly proportioned for professional handheld camcorders. The traditional shotgun mic that works for classic shoulder‐mount camcorders may not be a good choice for compact handheld camcorders, as the long shotgun barrel can vignette and intrude into the video frame. So we kept the ECM‐MS2 mic short, making it the perfect companion for handheld professional camcorders like the Sony PMW‐100, NEX‐FS700U and HXR‐NX30U.

Professional configuration.

To work with professional camcorders, the ECM‐MS2 stereo mic offers XLR 3‐pin connectors and balanced audio cables. This configuration tends to reject electromagnetic interference for beautiful, noise‐free performance. To simplify operation, the mic draws current from the camcorder via 48‐volt phantom power.

Take control of background sound.

While the lens controls the visual frame, the mic controls the audio perspective. Some microphones are strictly omni‐directional—picking up sounds behind the camera as well as in front. This can create a disconnect between images and audio, not to mention introducing distracting environmental noise. The ECM‐MS2 mic has a solution. Switch to monaural mode by simply unplugging the right channel for uni-directional performance—sound from the back is suppressed by up to 20 dB (at 1 kHz). It's the perfect feature for news‐gathering or documentary shooting on location.

The ECM-MS2 is a professional MS stereo electret condenser microphone designed for mounting on professional camcorders equipped with two XLR inputs and phantom powering. It provides excellent sound performance in field and studio production applications at an affordable price. The MS microphone signal of the ECM-MS2 is internally decoded and it provides L and R (stereo) outputs. It also supports mono operation by simply unpluging the right channel (disabling phantom power from the right channel XLR connector).

Excellent Sound Quality

The ECM-MS2 uses the Mid-Side (MS) technique that offers natural stereo sound and it includes a built-iin MS decoder with conventional L and R stereo (3-pin XLR x 2 ) outputs

Compact and Lightweight Design

The ECM-MS2 has been designed to be a compact stereo mic for camera mounted use. It measures only 5 1/2" in length and weighs 5.6 oz. maintaining good balance and mobility
