The SLT-A77 is built for the real world with a magnesium alloy body that combines high strength with light weight. Ports, doors and controls are also weather-resistant for smooth operation under adverse conditions.

Three-way tilt/swivel LCD screen

Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel over the camera for self-portraits. You can even tilt it up and down when you hold the camera in vertical mode! Finally, the monitor folds flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel.

World’s shortest release time lag³

Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. Long lag makes it harder to capture fast-moving objects. The Sony A77 boasts the world’s shortest release time lag at only 0.05 seconds.³

All I can say is WOW! After using a friends Canon and reading review after review of every camera I could afford, I was in a conundrum. I was very worried about buying another Sony after not being very please with my W370 after loving my W300. It lacked versatility. As I waited to see this in a store, I purchased a HX100 and an HX9. They were stunning to use and so very versatile. Basically they sold me on the A77 along with it's amazing features. I opted for the A77 over the A65, because I have wide hands and wanted a comfortable, tough body. The magnesium frame adds some good confidence on being tough, not that I'm rough. But you never know. Its very comfortable to hold and handle. I knew it would be before I even received it. I've spent the past week learning all of it's capabilities, but I found that a morning at the park snapping a variety of subjects has given me a much better understanding of what I'm in store for in the many years I hope to use it. The water fowl was just a short experiment with the 12fps as the bird took off from the lake. I'm sure as I experiment more, my smile will only widen. I could go on, but it's all been said before. It will definitely impress you. It sure did my hard core "Canon Only" friend this last Sunday. I think his plans for the new Canon 1DX is out the window. February 28, 2012

Heavy and Clumsy I ordered this as an upgrade to the alpha 550. However, I am very disappointed and will return it. It is heavy, slow (surprising given the marketing), and cumbersome to navigate the joystick on the back to navigate the menus. The joystick hurts my thumb when using it. Since Sony has switched to translucent tech it always runs in live view mode which means the battery life sucks, even in warm climate. The constant live view also slows it down a lot so basically its a fancy camcorder or point and shoot. I did find the GPS function worked as advertised and was accurate. So I think I might find a used A55V with GPS to tide me over until Nikon or canon release an APS-C camera with built-in GPS. While the A55 has the same live view junk, at least it costs much less. Seems like basically a smartphone with a zoom lens June 1, 2013

An Excellent Tool For The Proud "Prosumer" Set I do not earn a living with my camera, but I am motivated to create the highest quality images that often rival local professionals. My budgetary emphasis always explores the question regarding which sought-after photography equipment delivers the most bang for the buck. The A77 and the Alpha system components allow me to achieve that goal as a labor of love within a tolerable price range. There is a world of escape, discovery and self-absorbing fun to be had for anyone who takes the time explore the extensive feature set of the A77. I have never experienced buyer remorse with any Sony high-end product. That, in and of itself, is a remarkable statement. April 17, 2013

Buy this Camera!! I also have the original Sony Alpha DSLR. I do a lot of wildlife photography and one of the things that I always wished that I could improve was the autofocus speed. My new A77 took care of that problem. This thing is blazingly fast. With the tracking focus, I can easily keep up with the Bald Eagles now!! March 11, 2013
