Translucent Mirror Technology

Conventional DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. The SLT-a35 utilizes Translucent Mirror Technology that directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously.

Hand-held Twilight

Phase Detection Auto Focus

Sweep Panorama™ Mode

Sony® Exmor™ technology

Conventional image sensors use only a handful of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, which can slow you down. The Exmor™ sensor provides more than 4,000 column-parallel A/D converters. This helps enable continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second.

Multi-frame NR

Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Sensitivity selectable up to ISO 25600. (Recommended for still subjects.)

3D Sweep Panorama™ Mode³

AUTO+ (Advanced Auto) mode

Pro-style “rack focus” movie effect

A hallmark of today’s movies is the “rack focus” effect, when the cinematographer changes focus between background and foreground subjects. This usually involves careful planning, a tape measure and dedicated a crew member for “pulling” focus. With the SLT-a35, you can perform this pro-style effect simply by changing the selected AF Area within the frame.

Videos I can't down load videos...still on chip, but won't download. Any suggestions? Great still shots no problem there. Help. August 4, 2012

Good for semi-professional as well as bigginer All about performance n it delivers. whatever Sony talks,all about the new technology but at ends user want the quality photo n truly it delivers.Lest talk about the cons first. Its LCD is fixed though they introduce it in a37 but it should have in a35. Its body seems horizontally bigger than Nikon 5100 or Cannon T3di but much lighter. Pros are many. Great quality Picture. Built in steady shot gives it a benefit than others dslr competitors. Handy which i mention before. So easily u can move it fast. It simply best. I bought it in last 2011 Nov n till now i satisfy with it. Those who wanna buy Sony dslr should remember your picture quality n satisfaction mostly depends on quality lenses. So i think invest less (though it's expensive for me) on body n more in lenses July 7, 2012

I like Sony SLT cameras because they offer excellent AF while shooting video, a stellar 921k LCD screen with unprecedented quality during live view, and their steady shot technology, combined with the Exmor CMOS sensor. However I was very disappointed to discover a lack in ability to tether the camera to a computer for live shooting, and a complete lacxk of IR remote capabilities. Not to mention the dramatically over priced RM-L1AM wired remote.I was also bummed to discover Sony removed the digital level that was available in the previous model of SLT a33 and a55. Why would Sony make such a great piece of equipment, improve on its short comings and then cut important features out? April 5, 2012

Good but small changes could make it really good After a few months of use, I have a greater appreciation of what a nice camera this is, and I also have hit some more situations in which small changes would make it nicer still. Lately I've discovered how effective manual focus can be with DT1.8/35 and 7.5x/15x focus magnification. Unlike auto focus, manual focus using the magnifier is precise enough to set focus on the eyes not just the face. BUT to use the focus magnifier button I have to take my thumb off the thumb grip, loosen my hold on the camera and twist down to press the delete button! When I'm inside, at a party, I want to do that every shot! WHY can I assign 14 other functions to the easily accessible D-RANGE button but not the focus magnifier function? March 20, 2012
