Carl Zeiss^® Vario-Sonnar^®T Lens with 27mm equivalent wide angle lens and 30x Optical Zoom

The high-performance Carl Zeiss^® Vario-Sonnar^® T lens with 30x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports, and travel photos, and Close Focus shoots close-ups within a �” of the subject. A 27mm equivalent wide-angle lens allows you to take wider shots of the scene or group in crowded spaces.

Backlight Correction HDR

Don’t miss a single detail in high contrast shots. The built in backlight correction analyzes the image and automatically adjusts accordingly to give you a perfectly lit shot. Backlight Correction HDR helps correct for this by taking three pictures at different exposure settings and processing the best elements of each into a single image for more natural looking shots.

Intelligent Sweep Panorama™ mode

With Intelligent Sweep Panorama™ mode just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. Sweep Multi Angle™ mode

Soft Skin mode

Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot.

Smile Shutter™ technology

Smile Shutter™ technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter™ button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can be used together with Smile Shutter™ mode. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.

Anti-blink Function

It’s frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot.

TransferJet™ technology

Shoot like a Pro... I have had these type of Sony cameras for many years. I am always amazed as to the new features Sony comes up with, this camera is no exception. I was torn between the new A or this camera. The main feature that mattered to me is the GPS. It is quick and robust able to show the exact location but also the direction you are faceing.. Very nice. The 3D features are great if you have a 3D tv to view them on otherwise pretty useless. The Panoramic feature lets you choose which direction to pan from which is a great feature.. See my dock pic. The Zoom is great. The manual/zoom ring makes it very smooth to change. I tried out all the features and some seem better then others, however even the worse shots I took still captured the moment. For instance I was in my bathroom with only a candle lit the pic turned out exceptional that is my other picture I uploaded. Overall you love this camera, if you have a good monitor or tv the display will be incredible. If you still have a crt monitor or similar low resolution monitor you will see a dulling of the pics compared to the camera display. I also like/hate a few features... Meaning they are great but need to have the ability to turn it off... the automated switch from the rear lcd to the view finder is great.... but bring it to close to your face while shooting outside it automatically switches and many times that is not what I wanted. Auto Preview... Can not be turned off... However, it does teach you to take better shots instead of taking to many... The 10 shots in 1 second is great... but the recycle for the next set is a little slow. There is no continuous shooting low speed or high speed... meaning if I want to take 15 shots of a series of a subject approaching me I can't or at least have not found out how to yet. This camera will allow you to look like a professional. The de-focus background is a great way to really make your portrait photos stand out. Definitely a work horse I work for an inspection company that specializes in the power plant industry. When I'm on a job I take up to 500 pictures per site visit. I've had this camera for a year and have taken pictures in every type of light imaginable, from full dark ( with flashlight illumination ) to broad daylight. The HX100 has never let me down. Picture quality is always crisp, especially when zoomed to the extents. The vibration dampening is excellent and is the feature I like the most as I can't use a tripod while working. The only "con" that I can see at the moment is that the LCD screen has developed some light scuffing at the bottom edge from my shirt buttons while wearing with a strap. Not so much the camera's fault as it is mine, but perhaps a change in material with prevent this. Overall, an excellent camera that I would recommend to anyone needing to take pictures in a fast pace industrial environment. August 28, 2012

Great Camera I get better shots on this camera than on my two DSLR cameras. Great zoom, handy, and very versatile. Not sure of the lens size in order to acquire some filters. Must be in the book somewhere... May 27, 2012

Love it!!!! I love this camera. I got it for my B-day. I noticed that the camera takes better outdoors and nature pics than it does inside. Thats good news to me because thats what I was looking for. I like the sweep panorma, very handy. The 10 fps is not to fast nor to slow. I was looking toward a dslr at first but those didn't have all the features I wanted. But this camera did and then some! I recommend sunset pics. They are amazing with this camera. I found out that you can take a frame out of a video and make it a single pic. The price is pretty fair. Macro shots are also very good and so is back ground defocus. But sometimes the camera mistakes which object to focus and which to blur. This camera is good for someone between a pocket camera and a dslr. If you want to learn tips and tricks for the hx100 go (binary cafe) on youtube. He talks about the camera. April 2, 2012
