Best buy for the money I bought this to have to download library ebooks. It was easy to set up and easy to load the books to. I love the medium size print. I also like that it fits in my jacket pocket so I always have it with me. November 17, 2010
I own two Sony Readers I bought the PRS-505 some time ago and got the PRS-600 over a year ago. I love them both. I am a Mac user and have never had a problem. I like the Sonys better than any other reader I have tried because I can shop for best price from many vendors. These eReaders have paid for themselves many times over as I read a lot. I also like the Sony Reader Store. They have been generous with free books. My friends w/other readers are thinking of switching to the new wireless Sony eReader. I wish I could justify owning three of them. I want the new wireless reader now that it's available. September 21, 2010
Don't pay for what you won't use At the time I purchases my Sony Pocket Reader in January 2010, the Kindle and Nook were much higher priced. Now they are more competitive but I still am happy with my Sony. First of all, I don't need to download books from the device itself. I'm perfectly happy to connect to my computer to get my books. Next, neither the Nook or the Kindle are compatible with the library service called Overdrive.com that allows you to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from the library. I love patronizing my area libraries instead of buying books. Amazon and BN want you to buy your books from them. Incidentally, I have bought books from BN for my Sony. Next, the Sony Ereader Store has the newest books just like Amazon and BN and they are very competitively priced. I didn't want a dictionary, or newspapers or instant downloads from the device, and I certainly don't need to email pdf files to myself or storage for 35000 documents or however many the Nook and Kindle can hold. I just want a bunch of books available on a reader at a good price and that's what I got. I can bookmark places and my reader will keep track of where I was in the book and take me back there the next time I come back. My only advice is that you research all the devices and look at what kind of files you will want to download, epub, pdf, whatever, and be sure to get a device that is compatible with those kind of files. Read the fine print about what bells and whistles are available on the device you are interested in and read the reviews to see what people think about those bells and whistles. The Sony devices, at least the pocket reader that I got, is just exactly what I expected and wanted. No surprises. I love it. Not sure I would trade it for a Nook or Kindle now even though those prices have come down considerably. August 31, 2010
