Sony has blown its reputation I have never been so compelled to write a review as with these headphones. I purchased these when my beloved MDR-A35 headphones died, expecting comparable quality. These are the worst sounding headphones I have ever heard in my life. I was so shocked I started looking up reviews and found numerous similar complaints all over the web about the poor sound, muffled and lack of clarity. Sony should be ashamed for putting these headphones on the market. October 7, 2011
MDR-AS35W I tried to replace my MDR-A44 headphones with the same model, but Sony had discontinued them. I purchased the MDR-AS35W instead and found them pretty good with one flaw. When I work out I put the cord behind my back to keep it out of the way, but on these headphones the extension connection sits right in the middle of your back - makes it kind of tough on the bench presses or on the seated exercises (as on some Hammer Strength machines). Bottom line is these sit at work and I'm still trying to find a good replacement for my MDR-A44s. September 24, 2011
If it aint broke... The old adage holds true, if it aint broke, don't fix it. Like the other reviewers, I've used the old style for over five years. That's a ton of sweat and grime (running and cycling). I used them in hundred degree heat, and sub-zero wind chill... and they broke from the cord continuously rubbing on my zipper. I searched high and low for the same ones, and found these. I usually wear them over a hat, or under a cycling helmet or under a thermal head band... and these just don't fit like the old ones did. The sound is acceptable, not at good as the old style, but not as bad as the other reviews (maybe Sony corrected this, they definitely have a ton of bass). Please bring back the old style, Sony... and cut that extra cost back down! We don't need a plastic carrying case (who deals with that???)! I do like the variable cord length, but would choose to go without for the extra $10. August 15, 2011
Would not reccomend product I have used this specific style of Sony headphone for 8+ years and for the sound quality and functionability, however the redesign has been a big disappointment. After 1 week, they broke inside a padded compartment within my book bag where I kept my MDR-A35's for 5+ years. The mechanics of the plastic and design are insufficient. The sound quality if poor. The mids and bass seemingly are the same muffled tone. The shorter cord length is unusable and the extension makes it inconvenient for a runner or weightlifter to use. If you are wearing a hat, the new curvature of the headpiece causes the headphones to stick way out from your head. Due to the configuration, it is impossible to tell which side has been adjusted for your fit (I do realize that the curvature is approximately the same over the whole piece, but they fit better if both sides are adjusted equally). The only plus was the comfortable fit of the earpiece. I would reccomend choosing a different product, (athletes especially). February 26, 2011
