Whether you're a radio journalist, musician, sound effects engineer or folklorist, the award-winning Sony PCM-M10 recorder excels at capturing high-quality audio. Though it fits in a pocket or the palm of your hand, this professional recorder boasts full-sized performance thanks to a host of powerful features. Like a pair of built-in mics, digital pitch and playback key control, cross-memory recording and more. Paired with durable construction and long-lasting battery life, you'll capture excellent sound quality with complete confidence, whether in the field or in the studio.
The PCM-M10 recorder goes beyond CD quality for sound that is remarkably transparent, clean and natural. Fine-tune your recordings with a variety of available sampling frequencies—including 22.05, 44.1, 48 and even 96 kHz—and choose from the dynamic range of 16 or 24-bit quantizing. Recording formats include uncompressed WAV or compressed MP3 at data rates from 64 to 320 kbps.
Capture up to six hours of uncompressed CD-quality audio (44.1 kHz sampling at 16-bit depth) thanks to the 4GB internal flash memory. Compression extends the recording time to over 134 hours (MP3 at 64 kbps). For more storage, a memory card slot that accepts Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) and microSD media cards (sold separately) extends your capacity even further.
The PCM-M10 recorder fits in your pocket yet packs a multitude of high-performance features: two built-in Sony electret condenser microphones for superb sound quality, a five-second pre-record buffer, a USB port for easy uploads/downloads and more. Plus, the recorder comes with Sound Forge® Audio Studio LE software with everything you need to edit and master pro-quality audio on your home computer.
Audio recording is in our DNA. Over 60 years ago, one of Sony's most successful products was a reel-to-reel audio tape recorder. In recent years, we've created critically acclaimed solid-state PCM recorders, including the award-winning PCM-D50. The PCM-M10 recorder draws upon this longstanding heritage of incredible Sony audio quality to deliver much of the same performance at a great value.
In the analog world, pitch and playback speed are inextricably linked. With the PCM-M10 recorder, they're independent, allowing for greater control over your audio. Use the digital pitch control to vary playback speed without changing the pitch. Use the playback key control to vary the pitch—an especially helpful feature for musicians who want to accompany a recorded song in a higher or lower key.
Stay informed as you record with a generous, easy-to-read LCD display that shows level meters, peak level in dB, elapsed time, remaining battery, sampling frequency, quantization word length and more. During setup and file operations, the display shows intuitive menus you can navigate with ease.
The PCM-M10 portable digital field recorder is 96 kHz/24-bit capable with electret condenser stereo microphones, 4 GB of internal flash memory and a microSD/Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™) slot for expanded memory. Key features of the PCM-M10 recorder include a built-in speaker, cross-memory recording, digital pitch and key control, digital limiter, low-cut filter, track mark functions, a 5-second pre-recording buffer and A-B repeat capability. The recorder includes a USB high-speed port for simple uploading and downloading of native .WAV or .MP3 format recorded files to and from Windows® PC or Macintosh® computers. The M10 offers durable construction and long battery life using conventional AA alkaline batteries.
The PCM-M10's electret condenser microphones have exceptional high sound quality. The microphones are omni-directional with a flat and wide frequency response and natural sound characteristics.
The PCM-M10 offers comprehensive signal processing features for location recording including: digital limiter, auto record level control and a digital low cut filter. The PCM-M10 also includes a 5 second pre record buffer, cross-memory recording and track marking functions.
The PCM-M10 conforms to the USB 2.0 Mass Storage Class Device standard and this recorder's native recording file formats include .WAV and .MP3. This means recordings can be rapidly uploaded to a computer and used in conjunction with most common audio production software.
The PCM-M10 includes both digital pitch control and key control. Digital pitch control maintains pitch while slowing down or speeding up playback speed. Key control allows changing the pitch while maintaining playback speed.
