Worked Perfectly the Very First Time Plugged in the power, ethernet and the video cables, turned it on -- it intermediately got an IP address, established an internet connection and let me know that a firmware update was available. After downloading the update, the machine powered down. I fired it up again, and all services worked perfectly. It did require a little back-and-forth between my PC and the machine as I registered the unit, subscribed to various services and responded to the confirmation emails (from the services), but that was pretty effortless. I was amazed at how simple it was. I was watching a downloaded movie within minutes of plugging in the machine. November 14, 2009
My second Sony Bluray player that quit working... I own three Sony Bluray players and two of them have quit working shortly after the one year warranty was up. January 7, 2012
I Didn't Know What I Was Buying - But Happy I did I am almost 'illiterate' when it comes to understanding wireless connectivity (wifi, streaming, DNLA - Windows Network Sharing Center) but purchased refurbished on sale primarily to play media on USB drive. Works well for that. HOWEVER - I have DirecTV and never considered getting or needing NETFLIX. Took up the one-month free - and in less than 24 hours have become a NETFLIX Streaming FANATIC! For netflix you get almost instantaneously Hi-Def Movies & TV SHOWS (no commercials) through my Sony Box with a wireless connection from my existing home router. Netflix streaming live does not have all the movies/tv shows, but has plenty for me ($8 bucks a month is worth it). If I managed to get it to work with my 32" HDTV with no effort, anyone should be able to do it. Don't care for HuluPlus, Youtube has no better quality than I get on my laptop, and the rest I haven't tried and doubt I will. January 2, 2012
Internet streaming with NETFLIX intermittent I have updated the machine every time it says it needs one. Avatar had a tough time playing anyway. The most annoying is the machine has problems with my internet broadband provider fluctuating download speeds between 22.8 MBpS and 27.2 MBpS. even tho this is well over the minimum spec of 1.5 MBpS, the machine can't seem to lock on to the signal. Perhaps just have the abilibty to deal with the minimum speed of say 20.MBpS and the Sony BluRay will stop buffering every 30 seconds (seriously the machine plays the NETFLIX stream for 30 seconds stops to buffer for 20 seconds, then plays the movie for another 30 seconds and on and on and on.)
