Handheld Twilight

Capture cleaner and sharper night shots without using a tripod. When set to Handheld Twilight Mode, the DSC-WX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with one press of the shutter, and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise. With these modes, you can capture images in low light, without flash, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.

High speed shooting

The DSC-WX1 can capture ten full 10.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10fps, helping to ensure that you capture the decisive moment such as the bat hitting the game winning homerun. In addition, the DSC-WX1 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.

High Sensitivity mode (ISO 3200)

High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. In addition to High Sensitivity Mode (ISO), you can select up to seven ISO settings (Auto, 160, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) when shooting in Program Auto Mode to adjust sensitivity to your shooting conditions.

Intelligent AF

Thanks to Intelligent AF technology, capture fleeting moments like a child’s adorable expression with the ultra-quick AF which locks focus in as little as 0.3-sec.

Motion Detection

Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces.

Easy Shooting mode

With Easy Shooting mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices allowing you to focus on just your subject. Sweep Panorama mode

Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization

Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode

Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects eight different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape, and Macro. iSCN has two modes: Auto and Advanced. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep.

Face Detection technology

Sony’s improved Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends.

Dynamic Range Optimizer Standard and Plus

Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees. DRO is particularly effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with a dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. DRO Plus allows for even greater optimization by analyzing each region of an image and optimizing each area individually.

Best Point & Shoot EVER!!! The Sony WX1 is the best camera I have ever bought, and possibly the best purchase I have ever made. The CMOS sensor adds vivid color to the images and allows the camera to shoot like an SLR. The camera has an incredible Macro Function, allowing the camera to be close to an object without compromising the quality of the shot. The smile shot is a fun tool to use, especially when the person that rarely smiles, smiles. My favorite part of the camera has to be the burst mode. Unlike anything I have ever heard, this camera has the ability to take 10 shots a second at 10.2 MP! Definitely the best point and shoot camera ever!!!!!!!!!! May 1, 2010
very good compact camera Bought this camera on november 2009 and I have used it for nearly 5 months. Did thorough research on all cameras of this segment and I went for this one specially for it's claimed low light image quality. And yes I made the right choice. This camera performs really well in lowlight and of course during day. A very important thing is to have the right settings before taking the shots. When taking pics in low-light I would suggest to reduce the EV values for very good pictures particularly if lights are covered directly in the picture. To conclude I am much satisfied with this little camera which slips easily in to my jeans packet. I am a graduate student and I live with my friends. After looking at some of the amazing pics it took my friends told me that it is worth every penny I spent on it ! I have uploaded some pics which I took with my camera. Cheers ! April 13, 2010

Very good camera but the design sucks All the features are really good. When I got this i tried it immediately and I noticed a black spot/shadow on the lower left of the images whenever I take pictures with flash in a dark room, I checked the screen and theres a scratch and I thought it was because of that so I went back to sony and changed it to a new same camera and theres still the black spot on the lower left, i went back AGAIN to sony and they tried fixing it, the setting and everything and still nothing happened, they tried their WX1 display camera and it has the same black shadow/spot on the lower left (ONLY IF THE FLASH IS ON AND YOU'RE IN A DARK ROOM) I really love all the features, everything! so they said, its because of the design, the black thing is the lens' shadow. but i cant go with that, with my images having that black spot. So i ended up buying a new camera the Sony HX5V which has almost the same features with WX1 but better. so think about it, if you like this camera, is it okay with you if your images has a dark shadow/spot? but after all, I LOVE THIS CAMERA! but i hate the fact about that black spot thing.
