Product just "OK"
CDs play well on the unit; however, the AM radio reception is very weak. Even local AM stations don't "come-in" very well. Sound of unit is good on FM, but, again, the AM radio feature on the unit I received is not a "plus." I bought it to replace an older unit #different brand# and the radio reception was not equal to the 10 year old CD radio player it replaced.

SONY WALKMAN CD PLAYER D-FJ041 REVIEW
Splendid audio reproduction, digital Mega Bass sound system, excellent build quality, attractive appearance, shuffle, repeat, resume, and bookmark program play modes. Just another excellent product from Sony. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-FJ041 is undeniably an extraordinary portable CD player in terms of sound reproduction, performance, features, and value that Sony offers. This Sony Walkman CD player offers an extensive feature set. Those features include a 1-bit D/A converter for stellar sound, 3.5mm headphone output jack, skip-free electronic shock protection, digital volume control, LCD display, battery level indicator, automatic shut-off, hold switch, digital FM/AM Tuner, 30 FM/AM station presets, FM headphone cord antenna, built-in AM ferrite bar antenna, radio on, radio off/band select controls, CD-R/RW playback, play, pause, stop, forward skip, and reverse skip CD transport controls. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-FJ041 also utilizes a user selectable Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) volume distortion reduction system. All of my CD?s sound wonderful on this portable with clear vocals and well defined bass performance. I am able to enjoy all of my favorite music, sports, and talk radio stations from the dual band tuner. Radio reception is always impressive on this unit. I have not been able to make this portable CD player skip during playback under any circumstances with the shock protection enabled or disabled. This Sony Walkman CD player D-FJ041 is a great companion for the morning run, long walks on the boardwalk, trips to the seashore, at home private jam sessions, or when you?re sitting poolside taking a sip from that refreshing cool glass of fruit punch. Please remember that in order to achieve audiophile quality sound reproduction from this unit, you should disable the electronic shock protection system during non-active use. The supplied ear-clip headphones offer mediocre sound quality. However, the audio playback of this unit can be improved upon in my experience with an upgrade to the Sony Studio Monitor Series MDR-V600 headphones. These Studio Monitor headphones produce generous amounts of detailed dynamic bass when combined with the playback accuracy of the Sony D-FJ041 Walkman CD Player. The Sony Walkman is powered by 2 AA cell batteries or can be powered with an optional AC-E45A AC power adapter. Please note that the Sony Walkman CD player D-FJ041 does not offer MP3 CD playback or a remote controller. Good Luck. Enjoy.

So far so good
I needed a portable player (I'm a dinousaur, I still have 4-5 thousand cds). Decent ones are hard to find, most that I saw retail were cheap.
This unit is very solid, has very good sound and resumes playing cd's that I stopped. Exactly what I wanted.

Sony CD Walkman Radio D-FJ041
- Bought this model still new, D-FJ041, to replace my old portable CD player. Very difficult to find portable CD players as mp3 players are now prevalent and more popular!
=====
GOOD:
- 1. Music from cd player is very good esp. if you use good headphones!
- 2. Radio tuner, AM/FM, is included
=====
BAD:
- 1. POOR BATTERY LIFE: even if you don't use, the unit will suck the battery dry within 3 days!!
- 2. Battery compartment is under the cover, below the CD. There's no strip to pull out the AA batteries!
- 3. LED display is NOT illuminated! You can NOT see display when it's dark!
- 4. Control buttons are MINISCULE and NOT illuminated. Very difficult to use in dark conditions!
- 5. Radio does NOT work well! Have owned Sony radios in past and STOPPED buying them since Sony makes CR*PPY radios that do NOT pull in weak stations!!
- 6. Almost all portable CD players have NO belt clips or any CD harness even when the package says the CD unit can be used during exercise.
- 7. Price is ~$40 when it should cost LESS considering the money you have to pay for batteries and/or AC adapter >:(
=====
Make sure you have the AC wall adapter since this model sucks up battery life and will cost you in total ownership of product >:(
=====
It's VERY difficult finding a Sony-branded AC adapter so you may have to buy a generic version!
