These compact and comfortable bud-style headphones can reduce noise by 87.4% (9dB at 300Hz), and the 13.5mm driver units produce powerful sound. Perfect for tuning out noise at work, traveling, or even when you are trying to sleep in a loud environment. The noise canceling circuit actually senses outside noise with built-in microphones and sends an equal-but-opposite canceling signal to the headphones. Additional features include an in-flight adapter, compact battery box and it even comes with a carrying pouch.

Noise canceling technology

Noise canceling headphones reduce ambient noise and provide a quieter environment to enhance audio entertainment. The headphones have an inside microphone on each earpiece that work with an electronic circuitry to create an opposite sound wave to reduce wave. Ambient sound is reduced by synthesizing with a sound in opposite phase produced by the noise canceling circuit.

Plug adapter

A supplied plug adapter connects directly to stereo or dual jack of in-flight music services.3

13.5mm driver units

The drivers sit just outside the ear with the tip of the earbud small enough to fit into the ear canal for additional comfort, secure fit and sound blockage.

Passive function

The headphones can operate as passive headphones when the noise canceling circuit is not activated. It allows the headphone to function as regular stereo headphones without using the battery.

Don't Expect Replacement Parts I lost one of the ear covers and tried to get them replaced the day before an out-of-town flight. I went to my local Sony store, but they did not have the covers. Went to a store on my trip, along with airport shops. Nobody could provide the earbud covers and you need them in order to make them work and fit in your ear. I was very disappointed that Sony does not support its product in Sony stores. For $100 ear buds, I expected more than that. It did not say much for Sony. July 20, 2009
