VAIO L Series 24 Touch Desktop
One of the Best All In Ones Out there!
Sony has always been known for its remarkable hardware design and quality, and this new all in one L Series is no different.
Its a great combination of that famous Sony design, paired with hardware that is not only amazingly capable, but also of superior quality.
1) Design - this All in One is near-perfect in terms of design. Definitely a head on competitor to the iMac. But while the iMac chooses to be an aluminum space tower, this computer prefers to blend in more. The black model sits elegantly on my desk, looking both beautiful and modern at the same time.
2) Quality - This is definitely a quality computer (If the Sony branding and price tag did not already let you know). The legs the computer sits on are genuine metal, not metal-looking plastic ala Samsung. The Full HD Screen has great viewing angles, solid contrast levels.
Text is sharp, and movies are stunning.
Also worth mentioning is the quality of the Sony accessories included. Most other manufacturers that include a Keyboard and mouse, make sure to give you the cheapest quality product (to save their profit margins). Not true here, the included mouse and keyboard are of incredible quality. I actually prefer this keyboard to the Apple keyboard I was using before with my iMac. The keyboard is solid feeling and has good weight to it, with a well spaced Chiclet keyboard (more famous Sony design), typing is very comfortable. Took little to no time at all to adjust to it vs. the Apple keyboard. Mouse is actually very similar to Apple's, lightweight and easy to move around a desk - responds fluidly.
3# Sound - its a common fact that most computers have shockingly bad sound with built in speakers, and should be used with dedicated speakers. Again, not true here. The sound on this computer is good to go right out of the box, with bass that won't amaze but won't disappoint either. Speakers sound clear, and a lot less "tinny" than competitor products. Audiophiles will definitely plug in higher end speakers or headphones, but simpler users will have no trouble appreciating the built in sound.
4# TV Tuner - One fact that initially drove me to look at this computer was the fact that it has a built in TV tuner, as well as HDMI IN. This means that you can also use the computer as a TV in your home office or bedroom. Personally, this allows me to use this computer as a monitor for my PS3, the two look beautiful sitting next two each other, and saves a lot of space in my office.
1) Noises- This computer seems to have a slightly louder than usual hard drive. Note that my ears are extremely sensitive, but I could definitely hear the hard drive whirling up and cooling down during prolonged use, something that I am not used to coming from laptops with SSDs. IF silence in your workspace is a necessity - opt for the SSD upgrade in this computer #it will also make files and apps open much faster#.
2) Price - this computer is definitely at the higher end of the All in One pricing spectrum. It butts heads with the iMac, and in this market where most expect Windows machines to be cheaper, its an issue. However - note that few other Windows All in Ones have a screen this high end, a hard drive this large #2TB @7200 RPM# and sound this great. So while it is more expensive than most, its also a lot more powerful than most. Those expecting a budget computer, should look at brands other than Sony. This is a luxury computer with power to match, the price tag reflects this.
Compared to the iMac I owned previously, I can honestly state that I prefer this Vaio L. The design may be less striking, but its more elegant and blends in nicer in my office #to me, this matters a lot). Also, the fact that it has a built in TV Tuner #something that costs about $300 to buy from a 3rd party) really does make this computer special.
This is an expensive computer. But the quality of the hardware and accessories, as well as the hardware you get for your money #i5 processor, 2 TB HD, 8GB Ram TV Tuner) means you are not just paying for the brand name slapped on it. This is a powerful machine, one that can handle any day to day task easily and quickly, and looks beautiful doing it. This justifies the cost and makes this one of my best purchases ever.

We just got this desktop recently and are loving it. It's like a mini tv. Although we are not using it to its potential, it works great for what we need it to. I'm glad I decided to go with this one instead of the higher model which cost quite a bit more. The kids love the screen size. The last Sony desktop we purchased last us just over 5 years. This one should last us just as long if not longer since it has a much larger storage space. Overall, it was a great purchase and well worth it.
