by frugalchariot Great camera
I purchased this camera in late June, 2014 and have used it regularly. My photographic interest is the outdoors, both scenic and wildlife from closeup to telephoto, and the wide angle with 63X optical zoom allows amazing reach. The 20 megapixel resolution allows fine tuning and cropping on the computer with no loss in quality of the end product. And the camera is not heavy or bulky, is easily carried, and relatively easy to hold steady even on telephoto shots. Overall, the camera is a bargain at its asking price; I would recommend it without question to anyone who wants simplicity and great photographic range.

Pros: I use this camera for bird photography and was surprised by clarity of the images when the lighting is decent. The HAD CCD Sensor Produces less noise then my Canon T3i at low light. The control layout and body feel like a much more expensive camera.
1. LCD Viewfinder is way too small for a camera with this much zoom.
2. Auto-focus response is slow and many times wont lock on to targets in anything but high contrast bright light situations.
3. Although I haven't explored every option there doesn't seem to be a way to shut off the auto preview feature in single shot mode. This is extremely disappointing for wildlife photography.
4. Image Stabilization is virtually worthless at high zoom. A tripod or mono-pod is a must!

Rated 2 out of 5 by ellamaja very slow with many blurred shots
I purchased this camera as a back-up to my well-used Canon EOS. The DSC-H400 had everything that I was looking for in a view-finder optioned camera, but as with many low to mid end cameras it just can't deliver the speed of my Canon and is simply not worth the frustration due to so many missed shots that can never be re-claimed. (By speed I mean the delay between the time the shutter is depressed and when the camera actually takes the picture and also the delay before the next picture can be taken) I was also disappointed that the camera did not come with a decent detailed manual and was forced to search online before I could use it. Memory card also has to be purchased before use. I am going to attempt to return the camera to the retailer. I regret not doing my homework before purchasing, but it looked so good in the store so I thought I'd take a chance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tankkgirl Love the zoom but.....
Love this camera and the zoom feature but disappointed with not being able to get the rapid shot to work and to switch off the auto preview.
Please if anyone can tell me how this would be a 5 star product

Rated 1 out of 5 by danebramgd I'm sorry I bought this
I've had many digital cameras. I think this is the worst ever. I bought it specifically to take pictures of dogs at shows. I am shooting from approximately 20 feet away. Virtually all of the pictures are dark, grainy and slightly out of focus. I am very disappointed in this camera. I even tried different settings to no avail

Rated 5 out of 5 by Quads1128 Excellent choice, grear pictures and easy to use.
This camera is fool proof for us old timers. Great pictures with zoom to spare. Lots of pictures before recharging. All I use is auto mode and have never needed to change modes for all the pictures we take. Great on our cruise and weddings and scenery shots. We are completely in love with it,

i am a novice photographer so i cant say much as this is my first camera besides my mobile :)
i love the picture quality its an easy 5 stars if that was all i was judging it by But. there is some options ether i cant find or it didn't have.
I wanted to be able to manually set focus and even lock it for faster shots it was a pain when i went to the zoo having a large red light. light up as you focus distracts the animals and makes the pic's blur. also the lens cap dose not have a tether so i lost mine twice :( lucky the first time it was in the hotel room :)
also the cable is not a micro usb as i was expecting and also what it looks like
