This is an O.K unit! It's not great like I was expecting it to be. I wanted to really compliment my new Sony 70" 4K TV with an awesome addition,and honestly my BDP-S6200 Blu-ray player fits the bill better. 1st,it has to plug in directly to the TV! I also purchased one of the new Denon 4K A/V 7.2 receivers also. The FMP won't work with any decent or high-end 4K receiver..(Audio only)...2nd, that seems like a lot of cash to spend on old movies and 2-4 minute short clips!! Had a choice between a 75" Samsung 4K and a 70" Sony 4K and I went with Sony of course. TV is absolutely stunning when paired with a PS4 or Xbox. The 3D is amazing also. I would ask Sony to continuously update the 4K content. Still I think Sony has more 4K content than Samsung on tap for premium buyers!

First, this is a box to rend / buy movies from. It is proprietary and therefore will have no long term support.
Second - It has extremely small mount of supported formats. Which means a lot of what you have video wise is probably not going to play on here.
Third - It's network cable interface / ethernet port is almost 15 years obsolete. I cant even remember the last time i saw 10/100 in a NEW device. This would be like buying a brand stereo for your car advertised as top of the line and it has only AM and a DIAL:)
Fourth - This has two USB 2.0 sockets. This is like buying a new car with two speakers. One for the front and WOW:) One for the rear!:)
Fifth - This is a device that was designed by someone sitting in an office who doesn't really know anything about this type of thing or really use this type of device.
You can do much better with an Android XBMC player like: Minix New X8 Plus or the Minix Neo X8-H

I wish i could give a better review but unfortunately this product is a bit of a let down. Most movies run about $30, there are some for $25 and of course there are some shorts that are free. I paid $500 for mine and I think that is overpriced. The usb port is 2.0, the internet port is fast ethernet 100. One would expect to see usb 3.0 and a gigabit port for a state of the machine. I for one was very disappointed in this. Also it would be nice when paying a premium price for shows that you would also get a digital version as well i.e. vudu and such. I think i would rather pay this price for the 3d equivalent which would come with a 2d version as well as a online version usually. It does show a nice picture and will give you something to view in uhd while we wait for the new uhd blu ray players coming out at the end of 2015. Also it does offer the 4k category on netflix. I use this machine very little and for the money invested i wish i could say the opposite of that.

I have a 130MBps internet connection (well above your average internet speed) and a Gigabit Ethernet router, yet the best download speeds I could get when downloading a movie from the Sony entertainment network was at most 24Mbps with a wired LAN. This is very disappointing. I found out the media player dos not have a Gigabit LAN (it has a fast Ethernet instead), and it is restricting download speeds in my system dramatically. I can't believe that Sony has not installed a Gigabit Ethernet on the media player knowing how much information needs to be transferred with 4k content. A 40 minute Blacklist episode took 1:30hs to download, despite having state of the art internet and router. Quite disappointing for such an expensive player! Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the beautiful picture and quality of 4k content, but this media player is not up to what it should do at this price.

I just received the FMP-X10 last night from Sony and I am very disappointed. First, the free content they provide is fairly worthless (short documentaries, clips and trailers)...seems like they could have at least provided a movie given the price paid. Second, the unit has to directly connect to your TV eliminating your ability to use your receiver as the central control hub for your entertainment system (I have Sony's current flagship receiver the $2,100 DA5800ES which has a 4K input and it doesn't even allow me to feed and control the 4k stream through their latest and greatest device!..not sure what you would use the 4k input on this receiver for if it doesn't even work for Sony equipment!). Lastly (and most disappointing), only a few of the movies (and not the good ones) provided on the Sony Entertainment Network are available for rent versus purchase. So to access any meaningful content you will need to spend $30+ for each item!! For those prices they should have provided the player for $100. I am seriously considering sending this unit back to Sony :o(

Received it yesterday (pre-order) with high expectations.
1. It's a breeze to install - 15 minutes max. The built-in Wi-Fi finds the available home network right away, then looks for and finds a software /firmware upgrade. The remainder of setup is routine. If you don't already have a membership, now is the time to sign up with Netflix and the Sony movie network. UTube & Amazon are not available.
2. The 4K that is available is drop-dead gorgeous.
3. The unit itself is attractive, runs silent, and has an easy to maneuver interface/GUI.
1. There are no pre-loaded movies. The free shorts that are available are on the Sony movie network and each average about 15 minutes long.
2. Many of the movies that are available are "buy only".
3. The included remote is on the flimsy side. It should integrate with the TV remote better.
4. 4K content is VERY limited.
Would I purchase it again?
The jury is still out.

First let me say that Sony HQ has been very accommodating and I can't complain about the service and care for its customers. I was wise in pre-ordering this product and saved $200.00, by default that helps me with the frustration.
I did not read, in detail, the representation of "50 Titles", that said I assumed that I was getting 50 4K movies with this purchase, obviously I was wrong. They are short titles that mean little to nothing and then when I see a movie I like it will cost me $30 + and that is disappointing. The only value I see now is using the Netflix and watching 4K content (not much there, but in time it will grow). Before, Netflix was horrible when I used only my 4K TV for downloading the show. The media player for some reason makes Netflix work better.
All I can say now is; please lower the prices of the 4K movies I am not going to buy a movie for $34.00

Please Sony, make this work with Vizio 4K TVs, I get a beautiful picture but no sound! It obviously was never tested with the many 4K sets before updating your webpage for this product to indicate support for non-Sony 4K TVs that are HDCP 2.2 compliant. I have tried 2 FMP-X10's and both refuse to play sound! I purchased this mainly to watch my Sony AX-33 4K XAVC S home videos - but no sound! I wanted to save my home 4K content on the hard drive and erase my SDXC cards for re-use. Now, I am back to having to play them from the camera connected directly to one of my TV's HDMI ports to get them with sound. They even fail to play sound back if I connect my AX-33 camcorder to the front USB port of the X10. Great picture - no sound!
No files play with sound...not h.264, h.265 (HEVC), AVCHD, XAVC S or even the sample MP3 music files under the Music Player App! Picture is great - but no sound on any of 5 HDMI 2,0 ports including 3 that are HDCP 2.2 compliant. Please fix the bug. All of my HDMI ports work fine with other devices including my AX-33 4K camcorder.
