Worst buy ever
for the first 4 years it was good somtimes great, but then there came a yellow haze apon it and a yellow blob on the right side of the screen. I called sony Holland about it and they said that it was the optical block and that it needed to be replaced. Cost ? 1200.- but under coulance it was brought back to ? 800,-. But the tv is only 4 years old! When i looked on the internet i discovered that the optical block from 2004 until now are the biggest problem of the tv. Here in holland sony is doing nothing about it. In amerika you get a offer for a brand new tv with more or less a little payment, because reparing the kds55a2000 is hopeless and without ending because the optical block is always breaking down. So i won't advice you to buy this tv, only if you wan't to throw away a lot of money.

Excellent TV
I have now had this TV for 6 years with near perfect picture and no flaws at all. My lamp warning came on about 4 months ago but still have not noticed a decrease in image quality yet. Bought a new lamp for when this one goes. I couldn't even begin to guess the hours on my TV but it stays on nearly all the time. Colors are near perfect and has black levels that near Plasma quality Many people that have newer and supposedly better quality Tv's have said they cannot believe the picture clarity out of a 6 year old tv. Thanks Sony and if this one ever decides to die it will be another new Sony TV for my household!!

Video Problem
I purchased this TV 3 years ago to replace a Mitsubishi TV. Sony had great reviews. TV worked great when we got it, great color, images were sharp. Over the last 6 months we started noticing some color changes but thought it was the signal or what we were watching. Had a lamp notice come on, had a tech out to check it and they said yes, lamp is about to die but you got a bigger problem...your screen is all green and its not supposed to do that. They told me they had seen this in other TV's and to call Sony. Come to find out its not just my TV but many that are having this problem for this model. When this first started Sony was replacing the part - but now the part is more money (almost $1500) than the TV is worth. So, Sony gave me an option to purchase one of three TV's at a deep discount rate. I am taking that option (since its the only one I have). I am dissapointed my TV didn't last longer and woudl not buy this again. I am a fan of Sony and would buy their TV's again. I am glad Sony is trying to take care of their customers by offering the discounted rate for another TV but I am not sure how long this program will last. Even if we had not had this problem with our TV when you see what else they offer there is no reason to buy this model at the price listed - the new EX500 series is better as a TV vs. this model; the EX700 series has the next geneation of video engines (from what I was told at sony store when I went to see the TV) and it is even better than the EX500 series. The best new TV on the market is the NX series. I would go for the EX or NX versions. Sony is good and they stand by their product. I am glad I caught my problem now and got lucky. It would have cost me a fortune to replace this TV at full price and I expected it to last me much longer.
