by Tiana It works for me and like it a lot
I originally wanted to get high end RoKu but didn't want to spend the extra $$ just to get their usb port and ethernet, plus they didn't have you tube so that was a deal breaker for me.
On the other hand Sony smp n200 has all of that for under 70 bucks so I went with it.
Plus some of the other players I was looking at didn't have remote controls and I didn't want to use a smart phone as a remote, that's too much trouble plus I don't have a smart phone anyway and wouldn't use it as a remote even if I did have one.
I like the fact Sony supports my tv since I don't have an LCD tv so all of this made me get sony streaming player.
This player works for me and haven't really had any problems with it except today the remote acted like it wasn't working but i don't care what player you have it's not going to be perfect.
Sony smp n 200 gives me netflix and vudo so i pay as I go with them plus have crackle and my favorite You Tube which sold me.
IT doesn't play all of my favorite listings but I can search for those same videos and play them like that so this essentially works for me.
ADVICE: have the player on its side (see pic) instead of laying flat that way it doesn't get hot, also if you have ethernet then go buy an ethernet cable and stream everything direct instead of wifi, although it's not necessary but strongly suggested that way it gives the best performance period, hard wire is better anyway regardless if your using roku or simply just using your laptop, I use both wifi and ethernet and choose to connect hard wire because why not?

I had this hooked up for less than 15 minutes before I decided to return it and keep using the previous, older N100. The first problem I encountered was the remote control turned off one of my other components, whenever I tried to power on the streaming player. The second problem I found was that you can only use one signal outlet at a time. So if you have the HDMI cable hooked up, then you can't use the video out or component video out. This was a deal breaker for me because I use the video out to control a small 7 inch tv monitor for Pandora. I did this so I wouldn't have to turn on the big tv just to listen to music. With the N100 this works great, but the new model doesn't support this. The biggest problem I had was dealing with phone calls trying to get this product returned. I spent a hour on the phone mostly on hold....only to speak with people that couldn't speak the language. After this experience I will only use Crutchfield and stay away from Sony style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jraz Great addition to my home!
I am thoroughly impressed. This is a GREAT addition to any non-smart TV.
I literately can chose a movie to watch that is stored on my PC, from my Cell Phone, and send it to my TV like magic. Say goodbye to all those messy wires.
I will doc it one star for the fallowing reasons. Some XViD, DiVX formats are not supported. The OS used isn't open, therefor no aftermarket support, or additional apps. There is no multi-tasking, I would like the show to keep playing in the background as I search for the next. Storage space is cheap, why couldn't they have added a simple 8 - 32GB HDD for internal apps+ or storing movies. No flash support, cannot stream from websites.
Other than that, it does EVERYTHING it claims to, and then some. I have a giant collection of movies, and I can sit back in my bed and control it all from my android cell phone now. Also I can keep the laptop with me in bed while watching netflix, and not running a cable from the laptop to the TV. So much better.
Well done Sony. =)

Rated 2 out of 5 by thegladiator Does not connect to home network
I am a SONY fan. I own SONY TVs, cameras, DVD players, receivers, etc. I have always been extremely satisfied with SONY products because of their superior quality. I have always been willing to pay extra for SONY products. However, I have been disappointed with SONY's media player SMP-N200 for two major reasons: NOT able to connect directly to home network to play media on PC hard drives; and NOT able to play DIVX and AVI video formats. Other competitors' media players provide these capabilities.
I have already purchased the Western Digital USB 2.0 TV Live Streaming Media Player WDBHG70000NBK-HESN. With the Western Digital media player I can connect to my home network directly and brouse all my PC hard drives and play all the media on them in HD clarity. I have returned the SONY SMP-N200 for full refund.
SONY, please take note. Forget DLNA. Make your products home network user friendly.

I've had this device for two years. It's awful.
When I first got it everything worked but my Hulu account... it would freeze everytime a commercial came on, I would have to start the show over, then it would freeze when the 2nd commercial came on, and so on. I called and emailed tech support probably 10 times. I got various versions of "turn it off and turn it back on again." Eventually I just gave up trying to watch Hulu.
Since then, it's had trouble connecting to wifi. I've brought it to 3 different apartments with 3 different wifi accounts. Some nights it works perfect, other night it refuses to connect. Yet I know my internet is fine because I finally got fed up enough to be writing this review on my laptop..
I wish I had the receipt to return it or customer service would do SOMETHING to help.
I'll never buy this product or brand again.

I have a Sony televison and Siny Home Entertainment System; so i tought might as well get the SMP-200 for compatability purposes.
Turns out i hate this product. The SMP-200 is simple to install, the sound was great. But I really hate the user interface its terrible. When you compare it to the Roku 2DX, now thats a beautiful and easy to use interface.
I also hate the Internet browser, I thought i was back in the year 1992. Its difficult to browse and navigatge, then it freezes. You cant play online content. its terrible. my very cheap NET10 cell phone has a better browser than the SMP-200.
I was going to return it today (2/1/2012), but decided to waste some time getting familiar with the user interface, internet browser, and trying to add more channels, with no success.
I am returning the SMP-200 tomorrow. I am really disappointed. Never thought Sony would produce and sell such a terrible product.
If you are just using the SMP-200 for Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube you will be fine. But if you want more control over your entertainment look for something else. I am going back to Bestbuy tomorrow and exchange it for the Roku 2DX.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VictorS Excellent value for video streaming
I wanted a video streaming device to catchup on TV shows I've been missing. The catch was I needed to connect it to an old television that lacked HDMI but wanted HDMI for a future TV upgrade. I also needed it to support Netflix, Amazon VOD and Hulu Plus. Everything after that is icing on the cake. After installing the device, I was up and running (and streaming) within 20 minutes. Image quality is outstanding and audio is clear. My only complaint is the UI isn't particularly intuitive, particularly since it employs a hidden menu that's displayable when you click the options button. If you're used to the UI on the PSP and the PS3, this won't be a problem.
One feature I wasn't aware of was the availability of the iPhone remote. It's UI needs some help and it doesn't make full use of the possibilities of a smartphone based remote the way AppleTV integrates with the iPhone. However, it does make using the N200 easier since you can use the virtual keyboard on the iPhone to enter search terms instead of using the odd and painful virtual numeric keypad with the original remote.
I haven't seen my wi-fi connection drop and it's been working flawlessly. In a lot of cases, I've found that there are issues with older 802.11N routers. It's not really a Sony problem.
Otherwise, Sony did a great job with this streaming device, most importantly it does everything I want it to do. I'm hoping Sony continues to add more applications to make it more competitive with Roku.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Badger42 Exactly what i was looking for and it works great!
I was considering buying another ps3 for the tv in my bedroom because it works so well at letting me stream movies and music over my home network but then I came accross this and picked it up for only 80 bucks and it did exactly what i needed it to do without having to fork out 250 for another ps3. I basically just wanted something to stream my media from my network and also allow me to watch netflix and hulu plus and this does exactly that plus more. I would recomend this product to anyone that has the same needs as me.
