I have these plugged into my computer, playing music through winamp. With the equalizer set to flat, they have good sound reproduction. I modified my equalizer a bit, nothing drastic on the high and low ends, and it sounds majestic. You can't be turning these up too loud though, the 40mm drivers don't sound so well on full volume, and you'll probably lose your hearing. I found mine has it's sweet spot about a third of the master volume. Depending on your source, your sweet spot may vary.
Best used in relaxing listening environments, like when you're home from work and you need to relax. After wearing them for a while, you won't even notice them there.

I bought these a few days ago as a replacement for my (more expensive) Sennheiser HD205. The ear pads on those headphones had worn off and they were very uncomfortable to begin with, so I was keen on replacing them with something more ergonomic. In that aspect, the MDRMA-100 is certainly better. They're light and they sit comfortably on my rather large head. What disappointed me however is the huge difference in sound quality between these two devices. They're simply incomparable, the Sennheiser HD205's sound quality is far superior to the MDR-MA100. Sadly, the difference is so large and jarring that I'm more likely to suffer the discomfort of the HD205 than use the MA100, which to my ears sound muddy and weak. I struggle to find advantages that MDRMA100 has over cheap brand headphones (for example an A4tech headset I had) besides build quality and that is not enough to justify paying double, even if it is only 30 dollars. As such, I can't really recommend them. Its probably more worthwhile to save up and buy a better set, than to hope that you'll get a good product at this price point.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Roan Good headphones, poor design
These headphones were great. They sounded great and they were really comfortable. But the cord was really long, I'm 6 foot and it dangled below my knees and ended at my shin while I was wearing them. Which isn't bad, unless you want to sit and listen to music then get up and go. When you sit, if you're not careful you can step on the cord and yank on the headphones when you get up. I broke mine yesterday by doing exactly this. I've done it multiple times, and I couldn't have been more careful with these headphones, I practically babied them. However it always seemed to happen and now I have to go buy a new pair. Don't get me wrong, they sounded great but if I would have known this would become a problem I never would have bought them. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.
