by SwissSusy I love this camera!
I am picky about my cameras, especially since I stopped hauling SLRs in favor of less weight and more convenience. Most super zooms suffer from fuzzy or shaky images, but Sony has really improved clarity, even when pushing the zoom to its extreme limit. The baby bunny whose photo I took was on the other side of my not-too-small yard. I was sitting in my car in the driveway. I zoomed all the way in on the little cutie and caught him with a mouthful of grass. I honestly can't say enough about how much I love this camera!

This camera is wonderful. Solid in feel which helps holding it steady. Zoom is incredible. The 3D pictures, when viewed on my Bravia 3D TV are really impressive. Not native 3D but very, very close to it and very impressed that this 3D is created on the fly in the software. Tons of options. Took a day or two to learn the menu and still learning it but it's mostly intuitive. I like the built-in help guide for each feature. The manual is fairly good but it's only online. That's about the only thing that I can fault. For the money, a manual on CD would be appropriate. Otherwise, an excellent camera.

I take mostly sports pictures of my nieces and nephews. I upgraded from a Sony DSC-H10 that I bought in 2009. I love the longer optical zoom and the shots that I'm getting with the 10 frames per second. However, the time you have to wait for the images to be stored can be annoying. I find that instead of being ready to take the next shot I look up to watch the game so that I'm not counting the seconds of wait time. I also like that there are 3 memory settings. Makes it easier if the camera shuts down and you don't have a lot of time to reselect settings.
My previous camera had a menu option to turn off the Auto Preview function, which I liked especially for the sports shooting, but I haven't been able to find a way to turn it off on this camera. If anyone knows how, I'd love to hear from you. I've searched the online help and couldn't find anything about being able to turn it off.
After my first use, I thought about returning the camera because I was frustrated with the wait time to store images. However, when I looked at the pictures I had taken, I was amazed at some of the action shots that I got. I've used it a couple of more times and I'm adapting to it. If I could find a camera with the same (or better) zoom and 10 fps burst mode that was in this price range, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat!
Lots of options on this camera, most of which I haven't used yet, but I like the list available in the Scene Selection. I'm also going to try out the Color Mode where the image captured is black and white except for the color you select.

I replaced my Olympus Stylus camera with this one. I have to conscientiously place my thumb on the special area so that I do not record videos. I recently took over 1300 photos and must have had 15 videos that I did not purposely take. Don't like that there is no real good paper manual either.
I also had a problem with the lens cover not retracting when I turned on the camera. I had to manually slide the cover back into the slot . Not sure if this is a malfunction on my camera or if this has happened to others.
The wrist strap on my camera sliced through and my camera fell on the ground. I only purchased this camera at the end of September. Fortunately the lens had retracted or it might have been broken. I took the strap off my husband's camera and put it on my for the remainder of my trip.

I got this camera a couple of weeks ago, and generally I am very impressed with it, as it takes near SLR-like images. The only complaint that I have is the distortion of the image in "no-zoom" mode that creates very visible curvature of objects close to the edge of the frame. I don't know if this is a defect of my particular camera, or a general problem with the model. I may try to replace it and see if the defect goes away. Perhaps there is a shooting mode that would not result in having this distortion but I haven't found a solution in the user guide.
