Rated 5 out of 5 by Kaiping Best phone for me
Love sony , because the quality, most sony products are higher price, but smart phone....z ultra is cheaper, I buy on line even cheaper.
Big screen perfect for me, I used s4 for a year, it was ok. Z ultra much better and easy for me , special writing Chinese.
I see some buyer leaving one star, complaints . Some complaint screen too big....funny. Some said no flash light...funny. Some said not compatible with sprint, Verizon....funny....before I buy a phone , special unlock phone, I doing some homework.....phone speed, memory, quality, camera pixels, Internet speed lte, compatible with att ,tmobil ,sprint,or Verizon...last price. And go to youtube watching videos..
If you didn't do anything, and buy it ....God bless you. Good luck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cMilan Great phone.
I have bought this phone 4 months ago,
Had no issues so far.
Big screen was important for my decision to buy it.
But beside screen this phone is great in every way - great design, long battery life, stable system.
I still haven't upgrade to Android 4.4 because I am seeing lot of complaints about Android 4.4 (what is working don't "fix" it).
Hopefully Sony will support it with Android L.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ibol great phone and the best i have ever used but...
the xperia z ultra is an amazing phone it has a killer screen with great software the build quality is outstanding especially for a waterproof phone i love the purple color the pictures do not do it justice. there are some issues no. 1 A.S.F. or anti shatter film Sony needs to stop it get rid of it sack it remove it stop just stop. no.2 the speaker is not that great if you just made them stereo and better then they would be great. no.3 the camera is not the best don't get me wrong it is a great camera that i use a lot and it takes pretty good pictures for its class but it is no 20 mp camera like on the z1 or z1 mini. no.4 they definitely could have had a bigger battery the battery is great but if they had just made it 7.5 mm to 8 mm thick instead of 6.5 and included better speakers a 3800 mAh battery along with a slightly better camera as well as cut the stupidity with the A.S.F. it could have been the best device ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SonyStyled A phone or Tablet...Best of Both Worlds !!!
I bought this phone after having a good experience with Sony phones. I had the Xperia ZL..Okay this is not your "regular" smart phone at 7" X 3.75" inches I would call it a phontablet. Size to me is irrelevant since I do alot of web-browsing and downloading spread sheets and charts. The screen is clear, brilliant and the colors pop without any glare. The camera is not that great(only 8 Mp) compared with my Xperia ZL which alot of people complement me of my pics only to find out it's from a phone. But also the camera issue is not a deal breaker for me though I think sony should have crammed a few more mega- pixels. I also got the incipio wallet/ case they (sony) sell and it fits the Xperia Z Ultra like a "glove"..This is the best case and good looking for this "phontablet". Processor is fast and battery life is awesome too...

This phone/tablet is awesome, I have been waiting for a device to be released in the US. When the first galaxy tab came out the carriers disabled the phone feature in fear of it eating away its smaller smartphone market. I hate to carry around two separate devices.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra allows be to break away from that habit in such style only Sony can pull off doing. The water/dust proof just places this series above the rest especially if you have kids.
This phone is for the warrior on the road and the extended battery cover is a must for travelers, even though I the battery last me two days on normal use before it is completely drained.
So far so good no complaints.
Thank you Sony for listening to and fulfilling your customers needs, you will be greatly rewarded by the sales volume of these innovative products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TJT0321 At $449 this is the best phone money can buy!
I've had this beast for about a week now and I'm completely in love with it. It comes unlocked, and I happen to be running it on AT&T's LTE network using their Mobile Share Value Plan. It's a great cost saver over subsidized 2 year contract plans, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of upgrading.
First thing's first, if you buy this phone, you will want the SBH52BK Smart Bluetooth Headset. This thing is a must-have accessory for such a large phone. The Ultra is comparable in size to a Nexus 7 and a little smaller than an iPad Mini. It perfectly fits in my front pocket with almost zero room to spare. With the SBH52BK I can take calls (it has CallerID) without the Ultra leaving my pocket, which is nice, and I can also rock out to music all day if I please. Very handy accessory. The DK30 magnetic charging dock might also be nice to save from having to remove the USB port cover all the time, though it's a little overpriced IMO. The $14 Magnector X (Amazon) charger should be a good cheap alternative.
So let's talk about construction. This phone is SOLID and all business. It just feels sturdy in the hand even though it's very thin and light. The phone is also waterproof, which is nice for the accident prone. It's got a lot of nice detailing and all of the ports are covered to keep water out which gives it a nice streamlined appearance. That being said, you'll have to be gentle with it simply because it is so large, thin, and light. I can easily imagine cracking the screen by letting it bend a little overmuch. It's got glass on the front and back (which attract smudges like crazy) so you'll probably want to consider a stylish cover like the StilGut UltraSlim Genuine Leather Case on Amazon. Options are limited so choose carefully. Incipio has a few options, but most seemed to be reviewed poorly, so I went with the Stilgut.
Now for the software. Sony has been kind enough to release their version of Android 4.4.4 which is the latest and greatest available from Google at the moment. It's been given the Sony treatment with a flashy Playstation-like skin and about a dozen apps from Sony, of which, about half are truly useful and appear to be specifically aimed at trying to get you to buy Sony content. SmartConnect, and File Commander are probably the only apps that are indispensable as far as I can tell, though Sony included it's own options for Calendar, Clock, Calculator, and Contacts which are decent. I did swap their messaging app for Hangouts though and use Gmail instead of their Mail app.
I'm transitioning to this phone from the Nexus 5, so I know what stock Android looks like, and I consider the Sony skin an improvement in several ways. It manages accessories much better and will let you know when things are misbehaving. It also manages the external SD card storage pretty well. It also lets you use more of the screen than you would normally enjoy. This is a BIG screen and it's nice to take advantage.
So now for the cons. The camera is meh. Nothing terrible, but not impressive at all. There is also no flash, though I've never seen a smartphone that had a good flash anyway. I'm pretty sure Sony dumbed the camera down to keep the costs in check because this phone is top notch everywhere else, and Sony also makes those neat wireless lens cameras that would go nicely with the Ultra. Battery life is about a day with regular use so you'll need a backup battery on standby just in case. I use Stamina mode which helps a lot. Honestly, it's the screen that eats up the battery so keeping it as dim as possible will help a lot. Finally, the speakers on the phone itself aren't that great. I've never really relied on phone speakers for much so it's not an issue with me, but it might bother some. Lastly, you'll want to buy a MicroSD card (which I already had) because storage on this thing is pretty limited. I really can't think of anything else that bothers me.
Overall, this thing is a steal at $449. It's just large enough to replace your tablet and just small enough to replace your phone. It has no real competition at that price point, so if you're thinking about buying it, just do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sora Sexy, Godly, Brilliant Device
I've owned my Xperia Z Ultra for about a month now.
After all of my preliminary research was done, it was quite obvious that the Xperia Z Ultra was one of the best phones on the market to date. The incredibly sexy build, with high quality materials and the omnibalance design sets the phone aesthetically from any other device. The waterproof IP5 certification not only add to the durability of the phone, but also the 'wow' factor, and saves a headache of potential worry.
The 8MP camera is just fine to me. I own my own Sony 16.2MP camera that I use for real photography, so quick pics with the ZU are more than adequate.
I love how fast and responsive the snapdragon processor is. Lag doesn't exist with the ample RAM, and the phone's battery will last me all day on a full charge, even with heavy use.
The touch screen is so sensitive, that I can run my finger just above it's surface, without touching the screen, and it can still pick up the feeling of my finger! Amazing!! Pencil input is convenient for notes, just be mindful of how sharp the pencil is.
The gorgeous Triluminous display shows every detail of even the biggest photos. The screen size is perfect, and that's why I got it. I was tired of squinting at my baby sized screens, the ZU is satisfying on every level of size.
I appreciate how Sony does not bog down the phone with preinstalled bloatware, keeping the experience concise, and ready for personal expansion.
The phone definitely is a conversation topic, people everywhere I go want to know what it is, and more about it. They are astounded that it's waterproof.
I love the use of NFC with the MBH10 headset-- it is a must with the phone, being highly affordable to top it off. Just a tap and I won't have to take the phone out of my bag for when I bike or drive in order to answer calls.
The SRS-BTV5 speaker is an attractive companion to the ZU, extending it's sound for certain tasks at work, or for when I want to entertain guests. Despite that, the in-built speaker gets quite loud, loud enough to make a statement.
I'm so happy with the phone, I couldn't be happier. I know this phone will last years.
For anyone who gives the phone 1 star, I'm sorry for your lame review, because there's so much more to the phone than 1 star could ever say. Research will only go so far. Test things out in person too.
I had to do it when I wanted T-Mobile service for it. Turns out I couldn't get an LTE signal with T-Mobile (despite the research), so I went with AT&T instead, who had the EXACT same plans, and yet I got the mind-blowing, instantaneous LTE speeds.
#MUST HAVE PHONE, #WORTH THE PRICE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Valorus What an AMAZING device and at an AMAZING price!
If ever I've been in love with a device, this would be one I'd openly claim to be in love with!
Okay I'm a Sony fan through and through, but I'm also a very picky consumer when it comes to my electronics. Sony, you did a great job with this Ultra device.
Big, beautiful, vibrant screen. Pictures, apps, videos - they all look absolutely amazing on this screen.
Super fast processor! I'm coming from a Sony Xperia Z1s which I loved as well, but it was the screen and I'll be honest the sale price that got into my wallet. I never expected it to be faster! So far everything I've thrown at it runs like butter and benchmark results are astounding! Highly recommend an app called Epic Citadel if you want to be amazed on this phone!
WATERPROOF!!!! Take that, rain!
I love how I got to keep all my camera apps that are exclusive to the Xperia phones. Background Blur is my favorite and I use it all the time!
This one is big for me - UPDATED to the latest Android OS!!! I've been wanting a Sony Smartband ever since they were announced, but the Xperia Z1s on T-Mobile did not have the right Android version to work. No help from T-Mobile either! When I got this phone home I noticed there were a couple of OS updates and after the last I decided to see if the LifeLog app would finally install - it did indeed! Another great app to check out.
Another big Pro for me is that now I don't have to carry around my 7 inch tablet. There is no need. This is just slightly smaller, but not so big that for me the phone is hard to use. Cannot tell you how many people at work see me on this that gasp at it's size LOL
Unfortunately there are a couple of cons that I need to mention. I'm not really sure Sony can do much about some of them, but if you are thinking about getting the phone they are worth mentioning.
BE CAREFUL IF YOU PUT THIS IN YOUR POCKET! It's big and it's thin - not fragile, but sit down the wrong way and you are done!
Battery life seems a little light, but I must confess I keep the brightness ALL the way up and I'm not using any of the Android battery modes - I may try them and see what happens.
I know Sony is attempting to keep the cost down, but this phone really should not have had a camera downgrade from other version. Still takes great pictures and videos, but at lower megapixels. Also, this should have had the ability to record in 4K video. I know that seems to be a Z2 exclusive feature for now, but those two changes would have taken this phone to a perfect in every way category.
The phone is well worth the price so if you are on the fence, get off! Pay $449 and don't mess around and end up paying $679. It's a joy to use.
If you do get this, I highly suggest you get the external charger so you don't have to mess with the water proof flaps.
