Rated 4 out of 5 by Pouf Stable and very nice build
I've had my Z1 Compact since July 2014, and just recently updated to Lollipop (thanks Sony!). So far so good. The phone itself hasn't let me down, no screen cracking or anything like that. I've heard that getting warranty support for water damage is hit or miss if your phone happens to have some kind of fault with the flaps maybe, and you can't prove whether you had the flaps open or not, so I don't risk it. I just hope it'll survive a sudden rainfall or something. Otherwise, the software and overall performance is very snappy, stable.
It's very fingerprint prone on both the front glass and back, so I'd get screen protectors. Otherwise the metal edge feels nice and premium, but the large magnetic charger port kind of digs into my fingers when I hold it, so I still use a minimal case.
The only thing I don't like is the over-processed, grainy camera photos, but I knew about the weak camera going in. If camera quality was higher priority, I'd get a Lumia. Still, I'm taking off a star for that, since Sony kind of wasted their 20MP hardware. It's fine for quick snaps otherwise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bigimot a fantastic option for people who don't want apple
IMHO, this phone is a fantastic option for people who are not into apples. Works practically in all countries in the worlds. A wifi phone also. Could be used as a wifi router to access internet over cellular network ("tethering"). Also tethers via USB (then could use wifi to go online...) Size comparable to iphone5, which is good (why in the world is the US market littered with those huge Androids??? I never wanted those monsters! Finally a company that got it right in non-apple orchad). I got three of these babies from Hong Kong three months ago. Very satisfied. Will the day come when such excellent products will be available in the good old US of A on release date? Or should we now always buy the best phones from overseas first? The only complaint: I wish the back of the phone were glass, but it's plastic, so easier to scratch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DonnyDonster Really Great Phone
The Xperia Z1 was huge and the Xperia Z1 Compact is not. How big is it? Well the Xperia Z1 Compact is roughly the same size as the iPhone, so it's not that big.
Everything on this phone was a huge upgrade from my old smartphone. Faster cpu, better video, camera, everything! There are some annoyances though, such as the need to buy a micro sim because my Prism II had a mini sim. Oh and the screen scratches really easy, I treat my electronics like they are my girlfriends and this one still got a teeny tiny scratch. Your best bet to invest in a screen protector, any screen protector will do; as long as it fits. And the speaker is good, but it's smaller than it looks, I uploaded a video to show you what I mean.
Okay, that seems scary, but seriously all those problems I bought up are just minor inconveniences. It won't affect the phone in anyway, I just noticed it because I pay attention the smallest detail. The phone is great, it has a very premium feel, the back plastic does not feel like plastic, the sides are aluminium, and the phone is waterproof. Having a waterproof phone is an excellent conversation starter/April Fools joke; just place your xperia in a sink or water fountain and watch the mayhem ensue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ccallaghan84 Finally, a manufacturer gets it.
It's about time a manufacturer understands that not everyone wants to hold a TV sized phone to their face to get something with the latest specs.
This phone delivers on all fronts.
It's an excellent size (barely wider than an iPhone 5#
Great battery life
Excellent software support
If I had to improve anything, I'd make it slightly thinner and with a 4.5"-4.7" screen WITHOUT making it wider or taller. Other than that, keep up the good work Sony!
Anyone that wants a great phone at a great size, grab this. The other manufacturers #*cough* Samsung, HTC, LG) don't know how to make a great size phone that isn't chopped down on specs.

The Sony Z1 Compact is Awesome. I wanted a well built smaller phone and got it. The seamless transition through the menus is great. And it has a very good suite of utilities including a built in battery conservation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ladholyman Awesome phone.
I was upgrading from a LG L9 for T-mobile because the medical apps I used (Omnio, Medscape, Epocrates) would take forever to open on it. The L9 also only had 4 GB of internal memory, with less than 2 GB usable.
The z1 compact completely blew me away. I wanted a phone that I can manipulate with one hand. Check. I wanted a phone that has lots of internal memory. This phone has 16 GB with a microSD card slot. Check. I wanted a phone that can open up my medical apps fast. The 2.2 Ghz quad core processor allows me to open up all three apps, Google Maps, Whatsapp, and ESPN Sportscenter all at the same time, with no lag or hiccups. The camera is sharp, beautiful, and has lots of modes to mess around with. The front camera takes decent photos and works well at video chatting. The lime-yellow color is brilliant (though I don't know why that color is not available in the USA). Typing with one hand is a breeze, and both the default keyboard and Swiftkey work quite well.
If I had to suggest a negative that would be the glossy plastic back. It is a fingerprint and hairline scratch magnet. I got a Minisuit case for it - it works okay but does leave residue on the back when it's on. The front panel also attracts dust and fingerprints like crazy but you can wipe/wash it off since it's waterproof.
I also suggest buying a magnetic charger so you don't have to open and close the microUSB charging port every time you want to charge the phone.
Other than that one negative, I freaking love this phone. The IPS Screen has slick viewing angles. The Walkman app sounds wonderful and finds album art for me automatically. The power button is robust and use-friendly. The physical camera button is a lifesaver. Sony has updated the phone to KitKat 4.4.4 and left the OS mostly untouched.
If you can find a deal for the phone under $400 then just bite. You definitely won't regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SatyaChowdary A Nice phone
1. Good display quality.
2. Average build quality, good usability rating.
3. Decent camera(back).
4. Supports t-mobile and at&t (missing band 17, but works with band 2 and 4 ) LTE.
5. Good battery life- easily last a whole day on heavy use.
6. Very smooth user interface, no lag at all.
1. Bezels could be thinned out.
2. In call audio could be better.
3. back plate is plastic not tampered glass.
4. Front camera should have been better.
5. Sony Camera processing sucks.
6. Sides of the phone easily scratchable(suggest using a case from day1).
7. Speaker could be better in clarity and loudness.

Rated 3 out of 5 by EnglishBoi Amazing phone.... when it works & doesn't break!!
So my phone arrived & I was super excited & very happy with the initial performance of the phone in general.... the perfect size, great feel, amazing camera quality & waterproof feature. But I was concerned about how hot the phone got from normal use.... then after 3 months the screen developed a crack out of nowhere!! I purchased a high-end case plus screen protector before my phone arrived so there was no mishandling... in fact it turns out from that this screen cracking issue is a common thing (google UK Watchdog, Sony Xperia).
I will say that when I sent my phone back, Sony replaced it free of charge (thank-you Sony!!) so despite the couple of weeks of being without my phone I was happy again!!
But then after only a month of having this new phone, it's failed again. I'm not sure why or what happened, possibly it got wet using it at the pool but all three little panels that open were firmly closed. I feel this is the worst part of the design & should be a SINGLE flap like the Samsung S5. If this was the cause, then the "waterproof" claims are false.
I'm now debating whether to replace it with another Sony as despite my love for the brand.... MP3 players, Bluetooth earpiece & speakers, home TV) this phone is starting to turn me off!
So as I said, great phone when it works... but has a tendency to overheat, the screen cracking is a known issue & I'm very dubious about the long-term survival of the phone, be it on dry land or in the water.
