by Cristian Disappointing model
I just bought a SVF14N15CDS laptop today. All fine until I opened the box. The case was hit somehow in the assembly process as the box was sealed whet I took it from the store. Second, the screen has a black circle somewhere in the middle, something like a dead pixel, and third......like the first 2 are not enough, the mouse moves alone without even touching the PC, starts random apps, brings up the start menu and so on.....I need to bring it back and get my money back. Will need to think 10 times now when considering to buy something from Sony.

Rated 3 out of 5 by borass Brilliant design but unacceptable wifi
The 4+ lb weight makes it more of a laptop than a tablet. However, the brilliantly designed flip screen allows for display in small settings as well as use as a tablet. But is a sturdy (aluminium) laptop is the primary need, it certainly stands out in looks and quality. The low battery life some complain about is probably due to an overactive fan, but fan issues do disappear after all 67 updates are installed. Upgrading to Win 8.1 is a good idea. The bundled Sony software is quite useful especially the Write program with the optional pen.
However, WiFi is atrocious. Download speed is about 10% of what is achieved with a simple external N300 dongle - upload speed is comparable. This after all available updates to the Broadcomm internal wifi driver-ware. There are several suggestion at the Sony website and none improves matters. Could well be a design flaw - and this needs to be addressed. Using up one of two available USB ports with a WiFi dongle is not what a laptop this elegant deserves. The wifi is extremely poor with the built-in hardware. And from the reports on the web this seems to be an universal problem!
I would have given this 5 stars were it not for the wifi situation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jjcbase5 A Truly Amazing Computer
I was very skeptical about buying this computer for my girlfriend after reading tons of negative comments and bad reviews. But I never doubt Sony and I was very impressed when I received this laptop. It is very nice for the price. Of course you have to install all of the updates when your first boot it up, but after that, it runs flawlessly. Everything that reviewers have been saying is fixed by installing the updates. No fan noise, wifi, or touchscreen problems at all. The laptop has a beautiful design and the screen is awesome. The touchscreen works great, the keyboard is nice, the battery lasts long, the computer is fast, the speakers are loud and clear, and the flip functionality works very nicely! All in all I am very happy with this computer and I'm glad that I didn't let all the bad reviews scare me off from buying this awesome laptop.

I bought this to replace my 5 year old Toshiba which was a trooper but was time to upgrade since everything else I own has touch screen and I constantly tapped the Toshiba screen with no results lol.
It had a TON of updates on first day of purchase that took me a while to get through but afterwards was totally worth it.
The touchscreen works great and is extremely useful and the included Vaio apps for taking notes and things are neat and helpful.
I'm a student in ISDS and find tablet mode a nice new way too keep some info up without needing an open laptop all over table. I also don't find this thing heavy like I've seen some people complain about but I am coming from a older machine with quite some weight.
I have gotten Visual Basic 2013 running like a champ with tons of other things running along side it with no slowdown I can see yet.I have the i5 with 8GB of RAM and mine is black. Not sure why I only see silver as choice on here.
I've been flipping it in and out of tablet mode a lot and seems to be a strong build quality and the machine itself is beautiful. It stands out and looks magnificent in a classroom full of macbook pro's lol. Not sure why all LSU students buy those...
If you do buy make sure you run through all the updates before getting mad at machine though. It seemed to have some bugs that have since been fixed out the box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by fphan7956 Good laptop with some work
Would give a 3.5 if I could.
More of a laptop than a tablet, which is why I bought it. Good specs, nice 1080 screen, and back-lite keyboard.
Needs work before it is usable.
1. touch screen goes crazy almost right out of the box. always hits the bottom right corner. Had to disable the touch screen while fixing this issue. Search for sony's screen calibration fix. Run it and give it a restart and it was all good.
2. wifi issues, goes in and out, make sure to download the vaio wifi update. quick fix. took less than 10min.
Once I did all this it works fine. Paying $900+ I wish it would correctly out of the box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by OscarLeif Nice laptop you must update the drivers, windows
Well I bought this laptop and knowing about the issues with the wireless.
But I only have to update to windows 8.1 and then update the drivers, of course inside the driver you have to "Disable the "HT Mode" " Don't know what is that, but I can download up to 1 Mb per second, even 3 Mb but my internet is not that fast, I have to test that with local WLAN. If you follow this recommendations you will no have problems later.
I love the design the battery have a nice life, is tiny, and the screen wow, I love the contrast. Oh the rapid wake is amazing just like a tablet only turn on, and the computer is ready.
A nice tip is update the computer using a Ethernet Cable, because the default drivers doesn't work well with windows 8, work amazing with windows 8.1. But using the wireless with windows 8, will be slowly. That's not Sony fault. Is intel fault, Other devices like the Yoga pad have the same problem. But the drivers work fine with windows 8.1

Rated 2 out of 5 by tarheelphil Flaws that drive you up the walls
Specs: i5 processor, 8GB ram, 750GB hybrid HDD, digitizer pen
Was really looking forward to this product. I have been using it for about 2 weeks, and have been continually disappointed.
Cool hinge mechanism that seems to be solid and reliable
looks sleek and expensive
annoying overhanging edges
volume controls that are only usable when in tablet mode (explained below)
Atrocious battery life (5hr 45 min of light-normal use; including 1.5 hour sleep). About 4.5 hours of constant average use (some youtube, internet surfing, MS office)
Pen input has gone haywire and isn't working anymore
Distracting backlight bleeding on all edges of the screen
dead pixels at the bottom of the screen
A fan that spins up at full speed for seemingly no reason at all
HDD that makes chirping noises on occasion
glitchy and unresponsive touchpad
randomly opens up icons the bottom left corner of the screen without being touched or without the cursor anywhere close to the area
I was really looking forward to this laptop, but it has let me down in so many aspects. The main issue is the battery life. I'm in graduate school, and constantly use my laptop for work. If I sit through both of my classes (about 4 hours), go to lunch (sleep mode), and come back to school to do work, I only have about 30-45 minutes of battery life left. This is not acceptable. This includes a personalized battery plan I made that has 50% screen brightness, no backlit keyboard, and literally every single power saving mode possible. I can't handle the jumpy trackpad and pen input either. I bought this laptop so I could draw on the screen, but it goes absolutely insane when i try to draw anymore. The cursor jumps all over the screen, then eventually gets stuck to the right hand side of the screen.
Also, the stupid metal edge on the screen covers up the volume control while in laptop mode or viewer mode. So, when in viewer mode, you have to reach over the screen to change the volume with the function keys, or push the screen back to access the volume rocker.
Its like Sony spent all their time perfecting the hinge design, but forgot to engineer the rest of the laptop.
Not worth the $1100 price tag. I will be sending it back to Sony for my money back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JJ2640 Garbage - DO NOT BUY
If you want a headache buy this machine - otherwise go elsewhere. Had this piece of garbage for two days. ARGH>...... You need to spend at least 6 hours installing updates over and over again because the don't take. Then the touchscreen goes demon - seriously it goes into hyper - demon mode endlessly switching from window to window. Then after 3 "tech encounters from H..." they finally "calibrate the screen" which stops the hyper demon attacks, but you are left with a touchscreen from h... that responds to touch 85% of the time. OMG - what a horrible product. I bought a sony desktop all in one 8 weeks ago and it is great - can't believe this laptop is so terrible. Tech is horrible -- Argh... will they take it back????????? please help!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE of GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!
