I am a student and i bought trusted Sony for the first time. To my disappointment, this model has BIG TIME wifi issues. The wifi gets disconnected way too often. It works fine when I'm 1-2 feet away from router, but in the library and other places, there is very less and slow coverage. Whereas, other laptops and macbooks work great at the same place. Additionally, during silent times, the fan kicks off so loud that it feels like the laptop is about to take off. O/w it is a very nice machine. SONY PLEASE FIX THESE GLITCHES! IT IS HIGH TIME AND YOU'RE LOOSING THE BATTLE.

Purchased one of these laptops in August 13' with the I-7 processor and solid slate drive. From the moment I opened it I was disappointed. The laptop was put together poorly with pieces of rubber sticking out on the lid of the computer, the plastic appearing warped in some areas, and some pieces simply not fitting together too great. I actually had to snap some of the pieces boardering the screen into place. Depending on the Vaio update of the week, the brightness can NOT be adjusted; not with a F-control, not in settings, in NO way. The biggest issue is that these laptops have a massive wifi issue - the signal strength is horrible to the point where the wireless internet can not be used, it constantly drops signal (every 5 minutes or so) and when it isn't dropped, you have to literally be within feet of the router or you will have NO signal. To the point where if you have a large bedroom and go to the other side of the room from where the router is, you will be down to 1-2 bars of signal. You can Google the issue and see it's a MASSIVE problem which Sony has refused to correct. The problem is the awful wifi card it is equipped with, which can easily be upgraded for about $50 if you're willing to open your laptop and void the warranty. Which is the next issue. Early December Vaio care center notified me I had updates, upon updating my laptop - it crashed. Would not power on at all - it was completely bricked. The customer service was awful and frustrating. After a hour on the phone they confirmed that the laptop was entirely unresponsive and crashed, I shipped my laptop back in all the original packaging. About one week later I received my laptop back but without any of the original packaging which I shipped it in. Instead they sent it back in a amazon box, shrink wrapped onto cardboard. Inside the repair paperwork which said the motherboard and keyboard was replaced and that they did a BIOS upgrade. Upon inspection I see that not only am I missing all of my original packaging but that something is different, oh...The I-7 processor which is a $100 upgrade was replaced with a I-5 processor. After 45 minutes on the phone they finally confirmed that they are unsure as to why the processor had been swapped but their department was not sure what corrective action could be taken so that I should expect a call back from Sony within 24 hours.
Incredibly unhappy. My previous laptops were all VAIOs and it had become a brand I trusted and loved but this experience has RUINED it - I will NEVER purchase another Sony product. The laptop was put together poorly, the wifi card doesn't work which eliminates the purpose of a laptop(portable computer/internet), there are several small glitches with the laptop, Sony's own VAIO Care updates cause it to crash, the customer service is awful, and when they repair your computer they keep the packaging, and REMOVE components you paid extra for. Thank you Sony for selling me garbage which crashed during finals week. Now I have to wait for ya'll to correct yall's mistake, then I get to try and sell a $1,200 laptop with stripped screws and none of it's packaging before it crashes again. Biggest waste of money.

I was very happy when I bought this laptop, but my happiness did not last long.
After about a month, I noticed that the sides of my screen crack open when I open my laptop. When I took it to the story, they said that can send the laptop to another state and that they're gonna look at it and decide if it really needs to be fixed or not and this made me really upset. Also, it's wifi reception is too poor and it disconnects very often. In short, I do NOT recommend buying this laptop.

UGH. Why must a pretty piece of machine be such a piece of junk. From the moment I opened the box, I got a defective laptop. It squeeled extremly loud. They sent me a new one. I have never spent so much of my time trouble shooting, (llike today "repairing disks, could take over an hour") and I have only had it since late September. It's slow in comparison to my old Acer laptop and the sound quality can't even compete with my old laptop.
I got this laptop because I liked the color and the material, which is easily scratched, btw. It's not worth all of the trouble. Save yourself and don't get this laptop.

Aside from the glaring absence of a Ferrari Italia --a vital accessory -- this 14" Fit Premium converges the best features of Windows 8 with the hardware needed to realize the potential of touchscreen, near field communications and fast wake-up. Converging a quad-core i7 processor with 8 gigs of RAM out of the box ensures future operating systems will most likely do well on this hardware for years to come. Key features are the wireless networking via Bluetooth and NFC, the upgraded USB charge port and a high-quality camera and video card integration. This laptop is a bit of overkill for use as a netbook as it includes a DVD burner and the HD display keeps the battery time from exceeding 4.5 hours (I'll bet it doesn't last 4 hours on any one charge). But it is excellent for college students, executives and because of the processor, even some high torque engineering, sound and graphics work or gaming. One thing Ferrari doesn't have? Sweet pink aluminum diamond cut styling. Good job on this release Sony.

I purchased this laptop for college. I am not a huge apple fan and I wanted a Windows 8 laptop. My previous computer was an Acer Aspire which made it through a robbery and multiple drops and water spills, and yes, I'm using it right now (continue reading) anyway. I wanted an Acer but went with the Sony Vaio instead. The laptop design itself is sleek and beautiful. I love it. The windows 8 is still a bit weak but I feel will improve over time with system updates. The rest of the computer works great!
HOWEVER. my wifi signal is extremely weak. Right from the box, I needed to be sitting right next to my wireless router in order to achieve some sort of internet signal. After a few days of grunting and getting upset, I took it back to best buy. The worker instantly picked up there was something wrong. They are running a diagnostic test on it right now.... I have a terrible feeling that an antenna is loose (I don't think it's my wifi card because my wifi DOES work well.. just jumps around and can't hold a strong connection). If it is an antenna issue they will be sending it BACK to sony for a 3 week repair. However, it might be something with Windows 8/Software. I'm am heartbroken (because I loved the new laptop) and upset because I spent SO MUCH MONEY JUST TO HAVE TO BRING IT BACK!. Upset. Hopefully things work out with it in the future. I love my Sony but this is just a disappointment with the company and production.

I bought this Laptop about 10 months ago. (SVE14AE13L from BestBuy) I read the reviews, which were mostly good. Personally I've had nothing but problems with it. Windows 8 froze several times and then died altogether. System wouldn't go past the initial "VAIO" screen prior to boot up. Both my IT guys said Windows 8 was awful so we've switched to Windows 7. The touch pad is horrible! Almost to the point where you can't use it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, mouse jumps around, etc. When I'm typing on the keypad pressure on the section beneath the keys from my palms makes the cursor jump around the screen. Really sucks when you type half the time by looking at the keys. Now the aluminum back plate for the screen has delaminated and every time I shut the computer the screen breaks a little more. I called Tech Support up and (you'll love this!) they told me to drop it off at a UPS Store and tell them it was a return to Sony. Don't even bother to box it up! I think I'll wipe the hard drive clean before I do this. I can just image what the kid behind the counter at the UPS store could do with my computer and some free time.
To sum it up...Not happy!

Thin, light, and good-looking. High quality sound system. Comfortable typing experience. Easy to change hard drive (all you need to do is remove the bottom board).
1. The screen is not a good quality screen (you can see the straight lines if you look carefully, but it is just not very apparent, I can live with it)
2. The backlit keyboard is dazzling when turned on.
3. Good for win 8; but I installed a win 7, then I cannot find any driver on the official site. I use a auto-install-driver software to do it. And the keyboard backlit is supposed to be turned off by Control Center, but I cannot find the win 7 driver for it either.
I think it just worth the price, I would recommend it if you want to use win 8. The screen is just a little weakness, but some people may not even notice.
