Rated 1 out of 5 by JDDMusicman White noise when "noise canceling" is on
Bought to use on my iPhone during commute. I can hear road noise on top of the white noise that the "noise canceling" produces. I can also hear other people's conversation on the bus. Volume on my phone is about 85% when I can hear other noises. I bought these specifically for the noise canceling, but am very displeased. I should have gone with the iPhone bass headphones. At least it looks more comfortable and has a control for the music/volume. What a waste of money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Moonlights Depends on what you want them for.
I've noticed a lot of people complaining on what's good and what's bad about these headphones, so I'd like to break down what's good and what's bad about them in two simple sections of pros and cons.
Cons: Noise reduction "feature" doesn't work. I took away one star for false advertising. The site itself says it only blocks about 10dB of noise. Which is quieter than a crying baby. They have one wire coming out of each ear cup, instead of one. It can be somewhat of a hassle. They also don't come with a case, which I think could have been tossed in there, considering they don't do as advertised. They have absolutely no style, which I do give some consideration into . When it all boils down, I'd rather have a pair of comfy, good sounding headphones than some cheap, sleek, modern looking ones. They also have amounts of bleeding, depending on how loud you listen to your music.
Pros: In my opinion, they have stellar sound. I just broke a pair of "The Stretch" headphones that I got around a year ago. They perform equally - this one may even be a little better. The other headphones were around the same price when they were on sale. On amazon they can be found around the same price as this one. Comfort ability wise, it could use a tad of work. With a little breaking in, I think they'll be extremely comfortable. Personally, I listen to my music usually all the way up on my iPod/iPhone (I have a nano 4th Gen and an iPhone 4 (irrelevant)). Even without these all the way up, I cancel most sound. With them 100% up I can't even hear myself sing.
Overall rating: 8. IF you want a pair of good sounding, comfortable, fairly cheap headphones, these should be on your list. If you want something "noise cancelling", either go for the other model of these for double the price (rip-off, in my opinion), or turn these up!

Rated 1 out of 5 by LiamWillby Do NOT Cancel Noise
These headphones do NOT cancel noise. Not even a little bit. There is NO difference between the off and on positions (and, yes, I used a fresh battery).
I tried these on an aircraft, plugged into my iPad. Even with the volume turned up all the way, I could not hear the movie.
DO NOT BUY THESE

Sadly, the headphones were not what was expected of a "quality" brand. They had the hiss others complain of, but worse yet, they failed as headphones when the hinges on the headset fractured. At first it was a minor crack in the plastic, and some glue fixed it, but once the part broke completely, the failure was permanent. The type of plastic is not compatible with adhesives. Parts are not available. Buy them and be prepared to throw them away soon.

Rated 1 out of 5 by audioguytoo Not noise cancelling as advertised
I had to get some headphones yesterday so I got a set of these. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed with them. They do not seem to cancel anything out at all. I will probably take them back. Do not buy these. I had a MDR-NC40 for many years but they just broke (after many miles of airline traveling). I don't know why Sony doesn't carry them anymore. Again very dissapointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DissatifiedTraveler Very disappointed: don't cancel noise
While these headphones are comfort and produce reasonably good sound, they are absolutely not noise-cancelling. I travel a good bit, and these have proven useless for a noise-cancellation purposes. When I put the headphones in noise-cancellation mode, they hiss (like white noise), but no background noise is eliminated. If you really need noise cancellation, don't waste your money on these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by George123456 Absolutely Not Noise Canceling
Absolutely Not Noise Canceling. Not even a little bit. I brought these headphones because they are featured as "Noise Canceling". I am very disappointed in SONY, featuring them Noise Canceling. Way to lose reliability and customers.

I bought a pair of these and when I used them a couple of times, i just didn't like the sound cancelation of them. The sound quality is good, but if your looking for sound cancelation these aren't it.
