Sony knowing that this issue of replacement lamb is common and will have to be replace after 500hrs or less, the price should be affordable, Shame on Sony if they do this

I bought a LCD rear projection in 2006 June. The picture is not starting to go a little dim. Will be purhcasing my first replacement bulb 5 years later. Our TV is on 1 hr in the morning, and from 4:30 p.m. ot midnight every day. Love it. Way more hours out of bulb than I ever could have imagined.

by AWOL BUYER'S REMORSE
I had no idea that I would have to replace such an expensive part in such a short time. We bought our 50" TV a couple of years ago. I was shocked when the "replace the bulb" message popped up on the screen. I just about fell over dead when I searched online for a replacement. I promise you, my next investment won't be a SONY!!! I can't remember when I've regretted buying a product made by what most consider a leader in the industry. SONY, if you're leading....I'm not following...

For maximum bulb life you need to use some common sense: all DLP bulbs get very hot so you need to account for that. Translation - it's not the bulb's fault it's the user's fault. Don't put the set in a space where it can't breathe well, don't put the set near a heater vent, don't turn the set off and then back on before the bulb has properly cooled down (about five minutes to be safe). Most people who have bulbs/lamps that burn out prematurely are doing something wrong like what I mentioned above. I got 6,565 hours out of my lamp/bulb with minimal effort and intelligence...at 5 hours a day that's 1,313 days of viewing, or 3 years and 7 months. I don't watch quite that much TV, which is probably why I'm smarter than my bulb/lamp, so my lamp lasted 5 years. Since it is possible to get a quality Philips bulb with a case for $110 at many places online that means this TV, which won't burn in, costs me 6 cents a day... yes, about a penny per hour for crystal clear SD and HD viewing.

We bought this TV 3 years ago and thought at the time that we were getting a great deal. We had a Sony rear projection previously that went through several moves with us without an issue with lamps or image. Had it for 9 years before we had any issues with it and because it had lasted so long we decided to go Sony again. What a mistake. As I can see by so many others on this site, this product was created to cause you to replace the lamp often so that Sony can have business. 3 years and 2 lamps for us. Only I WON"T be buying the second lamp this time. I will go ahead and upgrade to a different TV and brand so that I do not have to keep buying new bulbs every 15 months! Come on Sony - read these reviews. Do you seriously want to lose your reputation as a great company over this inferior product?

I bought my 55" inch TV (KDF-55E2000) back in the summer of 2007 and now the lamp has gone bad after only 1 1/2 years. It's life is supposed to be 8,000 hours (avg). Now I get to spend $200 to get a new part.

I purchased this product in March 2008 and my T.V. is saying to replace it already January 2009, when I bought the T.V. they told me the average life is about 2 years I only got 16 months out the original lamp and now I only got 10 months out of the replacement.

Have had this set since early 2006. It was a great buy then. Am currently looking for a replacement bulb - 4.5 years on the original. I think all the folks complaining about the cost of the bulb here need to:
1) Use the internet and find a better deal. Paid half of what they are asking at Sony.com for an OEM bulb replacement.
2) Remember why you bought the projection set over a flat panel 3-4 years ago....The main reason was that it was half or more the cost of a similar spec flat panel TV.
Overall this set is great, very happy with it. Looking forward for its move to the basement so I can replace it with a larger flat panel (which will probably be less than I paid for this TV originally!!).
I will definitely consider SONY again.
