Cyber-shot Digital Camera HX300
Excellent Video FULL HD
Sony HX 300 Test FULL HD VIDEO with optical ZOOM
October 17, 2013
(I've owned the HX100V for 2 years and have taken slightly more than 8,000 photos with it.)
I JUST got the HX300B a few days ago and while I have yet to put it through it's paces, I'm so far amazed at how good this camera is. The zoom is amazing though I've not yet investigated this 100x aspect of it. At 50x I'm getting results as good or better than my HX100V at it's max of 30x. Crystal clear telephoto from a tripod...important...and the color is very close to actual. I played with a few of the features...such as watercolor...and found them interesting though not especially useful to me at this time. I did find that once I selected one of those special features, I was unable to undo it and shut it off without first shutting the camera off and then re-entering the menu system. I've not yet tried the video. The battery looks smallish, and I have an extra, but the specs imply that there's at least as much power as the battery of the HX100V, if not more. It would have been nice if the camera came with a harnessed lens cap. I'm not used to removing the cap and either having to palm it or pocket it. The HX100V allowed you to just remove the cap and drop it, attached to the strap, it wasn't going anywhere. Ergonomically, like all of the DSC's, this camera can't be beat, but once again, Sony manages to mess it up with a misplaced button. Somehow, they need to find a better place to put the power button, that or change the method of opening the battery/memory card hatch. A show of hands, please, for all who have turned the camera on accidentally while opening that hatch. And how many times? I thought so. Where to put it, then? How about where the MENU button is, then move the menu button back up where it was on the HX100V?
If I had to buy this camera again, I certainly would. I've owned 5 cameras in 50 years: A Yashica 35mm SLR for 20 years, A Kodak DC210 was my first digital in roughly 1992, that I still have but may or may not work. After that, a Sony DSC-S60, which is still have and still works, a Sony HX100V, which I also still have and still works and now the Sony HX300B. If nothing else, I'm brand loyal, and will continue to be as long as the products give me good value for my money and accomplishes what I need them to accomplish.

My Sony Cyber-Shot HX300/B
I love my new Sony Cyber-Shot HX300/B. I am still using the auto shooting and getting great pictures...regular and zoom. It is so easy to use! I'm so glad that I saved up and got this camera. It is wonderful...

My trusty old DSC H1 stopped working after 8 years. I had taken over 28,000 pictures with it. I bought the DSC HX300 and I am extremely satisfied with it. What a lens. Easy to use and I am having a great time taking pictures. Highly recommend this camera to anyone. Better than my DSLR. You don't have to change lenses to go from close into faraway shots. Rest in peace DSC H1.
