Rated 5 out of 5 by HappyOldGoat A Delightful Surprise
My bride and I like to listen to recorded books while doing menial tasks or traveling by car. Our faithful boombox of 26 years finally died of natural causes and was buried with honors. After a lot of shopping around, we came across the Sony CFD-S50 and soon decided it was the winner. It plays CDs flawlessly, has an AM/FM receiver with good sensitivity and records either on it's cassette recorder/player, one feature tough to find nowadays. But the real winning feature was the sound quality which worked well for my 71 year old ears, unlike many others we tried. Sony hasn't failed us yet. I doubt we'll worry about it now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by gccradio2014 Great Basic Boombox
Boombox is very basic more like a early 2000's fashion. It does not have a bluetooth receiver, and the cassette deck does not have Auto Reverse like those Walkmans do. It would have been nice if it had a bluetooth receiver built in and Auto Reverse record and playback. When playing back your mp3 CD's it takes time for it to read the disc before playback especially old discs. It does not have ATRAC decoding. And it would have been better if the bass was deeper which the Mega Bass does not make any difference. Sounds like a boombox you bought from the dollar store. Also it would be helpful to add LW and SW bands to the next future model. The FM and AM reception is good which is better than the other brand boomboxes I have owned. I hope the next model comes with Auto Reverse and Bluetooth along with the other features I have just mentioned. Still, it's a great keeper!

Rated 5 out of 5 by tyrdz Sony CD Boombox with cassette and FM/AM Radio
The Sony CD Boombox has a small profile, typical of a table radio if it were not so deep. The CD player is on top of the box, where CDs easily snap into place, and easily extracted. The box has a sturdy handle on top for easy carrying. All controls are on the front top-portion of the box, shared with the digital display. The radio is turned on by pressing the Power button, there is digital tuning, and presets are allowed. Just what I needed to play CDs and occasional radio use. There is a headphone output, and audio input via 1/8" plug, on the back of the box. An excellent versatile box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by martino Great size and sound for a triple player!
Just what I was trying to replicate in an old one I have, but this is reduced in size by several inches, but not by sound quality! The other Sony has great sound with larger speakers but I cannot find fault with this new model! Nor can I tell the difference in sound quality from the old one! I'm very pleased with looks, features and sounds!
I saw some with the cassette & CD player on top and side by side, which to me looks like a design flaw, but this is the ''baby brother'' to my 15 year old one. This now will sit near my PC desk for easy access to morning radio and my language CD's. Potability is major in a triple player like this and 2 way power makes it so. I hate wearing ear buds and fussing with play lists so its back to the basics for me and great room filling sound quality to boot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by gccradioscience Great Purchase I Made For A Boombox
This boombox has your basic needs such as CD, Cassette, mp3 input and AM and FM. The reception is great on AM and FM since i live 1.5 miles away from 1 AM and 1 FM station here in Virginia Beach, VA. Most cheap radios that I bought would simply overload in local area like this. When playing a CD it has great sound and it plays back mp3 CD's, CD-RW and CD-R and Audio CD's. The cassette is very basic, it does not have Auto Reverse like those other boomboxes have and it would be nice to add that to next future model. It has Aux input to add your mp3 player, phone, tablet, portable TV or portable DVD player or from your small bedroom TV or satellite radio receiver. It would be great on the next model to come out with this boombox with the short wave bands since I have to always connect a small short wave portable radio to the AUX input to hear short wave broadcasts. Most boomboxes that Sony made had SW 1 and 2 and I think the next model should do. Bluetooth would be nice to add as well to the Aux input such as a bluetooth receiver which they should had one built in. A digital output would have been nice for digital devices such as minidisc and mp3 recorders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 2000bpo Sony boom box
Searched for a long time to find a good radio, cd, mp3 player that would play mp3's and allow me to pick up where I left off on audio books, etc. This one works great. It looks great, and is compact so it doesn't take up a lot of room, yet it sounds great. I'm very pleased with it and would recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Hughie MP3 version, navigation is hopeless
I like the overall Sony quality but the display is minimal, no alpha numeric, and finding an MP3 file is almost hopeless, just a number 0 to 999 and a folder number 0 to 999. You can't get to folder two until you have passed through folder 1 so if folder 1 has 100 songs you have to press "next" 100 times to get to folder two. It has no treble or bass control which I need when I'm listening to speech at a distance and the boominess makes it hard to understand.
