This player is simply amazing - lots of features and online content. Stunning picture and audio. Has full Internet browser. Network and DLNA set-up is simple and works flawlessly. Has front and rear USB ports (specs listed here say one - that's wrong). Menus are simple and very fluid. The only downside to this player is Sony support site is weak - have not been able to find any help for setting up or using the "Socialize" feature that lets you share on Facebook and Twitter. And, very suprising - no Facebook app!?!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Glkjkjlkkljkjjkjlkjlkjljl Good hardware, Bad software
I've tried similar players from other vendors and I should admit that so far it's the best one. It satisfies all my modest requirements except supporting PAL so I must convert all my disks purchased in Europe.
Setup seems to be easy but I had a problem to connect to my WiFi dual-band router Linksys E2000. It appeared that the player doesn't not support 5.0GHz and I had to switch to 2.4GHz. Both manual and online documentation don't mention it at all. This is the only hardware glitch I found out. The video/audio quality is ok as other people reported.
While Sony's hardware department did a great job, the software department needs more improvement. During 2 week test I found the following issues:
- on the remote control "Return" button is on the left side, "Options" on the right BUT on TV "Return" button is on the right side, "Options" on the left. (this is the MOST frustrating issue for me. Even noname companies do the better job!)
- on the remote control "Stop" button is placed next to "Netfix" and "SEH" buttons. All of then are small so it is very easy to go to another screen by mistake especially if you have fat fingers.
- during avi movie playback from my computer via DLNA it seems not to download the entire file into memory so a brief WiFi connection loss results in the error which hangs up the player and the only unplug helps.
- in similar situation it tells that the movie.audio file is not supported but in fact it's just network connection issue
- some applications from SEH also hangs up the device, e.g. Chess.
- no way to control content on the home page
- as others mentioned, not good search capabilities in Netflix.
As per available content, it's quite versatile but I wish to have Weather, Facebook, and Flickr/Picassa to be a part of the home page apps. Once again, as a number of apps keeps growing there must be a way to manage it and enable/disable the application as per my preference. If it's already there so it's not quite intuitive and could be considered as other UI item to improve.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Leon99 Sony BDP S590 Blu-ray
I have to write this review hoping Sony sees some of these reviews. The Netflix interface pales in comparison to the Apple TV interface. I find it is not intuitive or easy at all,...if you know exactly what you're looking for, its decent,..but to browse for something,...say good kids programs, it stinks. Needs a couple more quick and easy links to point one in the direction they want to go. For instance, find kids tv programs, ...must browse amongst "TV Programs" and sift thru Californication, Lie to Me,...then Dora, then Spartacus, then Diego,....why not have better categorization? Apple realized childrens programs to be a major attraction of Netflix, and introduced a brilliant interface,.....Sony please get on this!

by hijk Amazing for the money
I love this player. I am simply blown away for what I am getting out if the is Blu Ray player. First and of most importance the picture and audio is great. This is a $100.00 player is giving me just about the same video and audio quality that my $800 pioneer Elite player did. My last Blu Ray play, the Pioneer Elite, started freezing on every Blu Ray disc I would play. I had been waiting for the next version of the OPPO 95 player to come out in a few months before I replaced the Pioneer. But with the Pioneer acting up I needed something now. I decided in the interim to get the Sony BDP-BX95. Now I am so pleased with the performance I might not get the OPPO. I am getting as I mentioned just about as good audio and video from the HDMI out puts as my Pioneer and in some cases better. This Sony has SACD, Wi-Fi, streaming solutions/services. I love it. The SACD is amazing. It is the way music should be heard. I hope it makes a comeback. Simply put you cannot go wrong with this player. 100% recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by insurableinterest BEST BLU RAY PLAYER THUS FAR!
Look no further, this is by far the best blu ray you can get if you're shopping for great value. First of all, Wi-fi enabled and the specs on this thing gets a hold of you like a vacuum cleaner because it does so many things such as, stream netflix, as well as other fun apps like Crackle, Break, Amazon instant, Vudu and having an on-board web browser which became a huge plus for me. In addition, it's a bigger plus if you have a Sony HDTV, as having both creates a more uniformed and seamless connection in my opinion. I had previously purchased a Vizio VBR334, big mistake and a disaster to say the least, as well as a Samsung BD-E 5900 which had to be returned due to endless headaches of persistence in attempting to log on to Netflix and other apps which seemed a nightmare. The Sony BDP-S590 is a walk to the park and squashes the competition due to its seamless connectivity to my home network and fast upload to Netflix . No going to my computer and activate a code or what not, no going around resetting options to get an app going. I highly recommend this product for your blu ray discs as well as normal definition discs which seem to have a resemblance to blu ray definition when played, who would've known. There are many more things this blu ray player does, but you just have to explore them yourself to get a glimpse of the fun. The bottom line is, it clearly states the things it would do and delivered, it was a stress-free setup and could not be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TBSchulz Cancel Cable or Satellite TV, Get Netflix, Save $
For watching DVD's we had four Sony models, DVP-SR210P, which worked great but this Sony model, BDP-S590, was recommended to me by my brother as a way to cut television costs. What he did was, he cancelled his cable TV bill and he then used this model and subscribed to Netflix streaming and DVD services - which is less than $16 a month. His old cable TV bill was $98 and it provided hundreds of channels of garbage, you know this yourself. My wife and I felt the same way about our dish TV and the huge bill for hundreds of unwatchable channels. So I bought one BDP-S590, subscribed to Netflix, set it up in the living room, and everyone loved it so I bought another one and then two more. With Netflix, this model pays for itself in one month by using streaming video instead of cable or dish channels. I love biographies and documentries but the History channel, Discovery channel, The Learning Channel, etc. are all now just non stop marathons of moron driven viewing like Duck Dynasty, Cake Boss, Pawn Stars, etc. So the cerebral documentries are gone and so is the need for cable or dish TV bills to get the channels that are no longer what they once were. Ironically, the History Channel is better on Netflix than the actual History Channel is now! Both families also bought antenna receivers so we could get free local channels mostly for news and weather reports. So if you want to expand your television viewing choices back to the golden era of cable TV when movie channels were included in the cost and channels offered interesting, viewable content, buy this model for every television set in your house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Electroman A Player That Plays MP-4 Video!
After almost despairing of ever finding a way to play mp-4 home videos burned to disc from my dsc-h20 sony cybershot camera, at last I rejoiced to find this blu ray player. It plays mp-4's, but also plays blu ray discs in stunning resolution (e.g. BBC's Planet Earth series). My internet is very slow, so I can't stream without constant buffering, but I have no doubt it would work with a fast enough internet wi-fi speed (about 2 mbps, 10 mbps for hi-def). Price was great on sale at Best Buy. Also, anything made in Malaysia usually lasts forever. Great player. Get it. You won't be disappointed.
