by asifraza Cannot go wrong with the a6000
I am a professional photographer and have made a good living for the past 30 years. I have also been a loyal Nikon & Hassleblad user. My current digital SLR, Nikon D3X as great as it is, becomes incredibly cumbersome after a few hours and I was looking for a mirror-less option. Decided to give the a6000 a try and, boy oh boy, no regrets what so ever.
It is far more than what I had ever expected it to be, photographically speaking. Awesome, awesome awesome.
Yes, there are a bunch of things that I am sure would be an issue for a large number of people not used to all the features. The manual accompanying the camera, is a true apology of a manual. I sincerely hope that Sony fixes this and puts in more detailed information on how to access and use the features available. The controls are not the most intuitive and I was struggling for the first little while, though after getting a good understanding of everything, it really is a charm.
The build quality is not the best, but then nor is the price anything even remotely close to what you will be paying for a pro-sumer camera with all the features and for what this camera is really capable of, so my advise to all users is to be gentle and not force anything.
The kit lenses are decent, though I acquired a metabones adapter for Nikon lenses and the image quality really does come through.
I will never recommend this camera to someone who is just starting to explore digital photography as much as it has all the auto functions and features, the true capability really comes through when you manage everything on your own, using better optics, particularly with RAW files when processed through Capture One. The images are simply VOW!!

by Apocryphon I want to be blunt about a couple of things to start. Firstly, I am a novice photographer. Most of my understanding of photography came from researching the camera I wanted to buy. Secondly, this is my first camera of any competitive caliber.
That said, this is the camera I chose after much research. It has very much lived up to and surpassed my expectations in most ways. That said (part II), it is not perfect and the rating given is for its placement in the camera hierarchy.
I think, if someone is looking for an all around, best bang for the buck camera for daily use, family portraits/life moments, compact carry, and even artistic photography within an affordable price range, the a6000 is probably what they are looking for.
I've read criticisms of the low light performance, and it can be hard to tweak.... but I have gotten some decent images outside after midnight. The clarity is impressive, in general. The speed lives up to the hype.
This said, there are some justifiable criticisms. It can be stubborn in the dark when it can't focus on what you are aiming at - in other words, it relies on its own computer focusing instead of trusting the user. Sometimes it is right, sometimes you just wish it would do as it is told, if only so you can get an idea of how to adjust the settings. There is no touch screen or mic jack. The fastest shutter speed is a "mere" 1/4000, which is fine for what it is, but there is a bit of a contrast with faster cameras. I'm sure they could have hit 1/16000 with its electronic nature without much of a price increase. I suspect Sony didn't want to make its higher end cameras completely irrelevant.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Kmom Broken in 6 weeks with minimal use
I purchased this camera on 11/27/14. I arrived in early December. In late-January, after being used about 4 or 5 times, I went to pick it up and the plastic piece that locks the battery and hd card door popped out. I tried to fit it back in and it kept popping out. After a couple of times, I now can't even find that cheap tiny plastic piece and the camera is completely unusable because the door will not shut. My only recourse, after a few weeks of minimal use, is to send it to their repair shop for who knows how long.
A quick search online shows that this is a common problem for this camera and many people have lamented the cheap plastic piece that easily breaks or pops out and renders the camera complete unusable. I am a mom who in no way rough handles cameras and this camera had barely left my home. I looked at many other mirror less cameras and wish wish wish I had purchased a different brand. I would not in a million years recommend this camera to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Allixz Absolutely Brilliant
Bought this camera for an upcoming music festival that I attended in Las Vegas(Electric Daisy Carnival). Camera took absolutely amazing shots and the auto focus really was as fast as it gets. Performed EXTREMELY well in low light and the video quality was great as well. Always been a Canon kind of guy but after the experience I had with the a6000 I might be looking at picking up the a7 in the near future. DEFINITELY recommend this to people looking for a compact SLR that competes with a lot of the full size SLRs out there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MtWanderer A very nice upgrade from my NEX-5N
I have had the camera for one week and love it. Still learning how to operate it. The controls are placed well and I like the menu layouts. I am a hiker and having the built in viewfinder and flash means less to carry. The viewfinder is bright and in a good location. There have been some concerns about the sharpness of the 16-50 lens but it seems ok to me. The battery charger, WHAT A STUPID IDEA... What if I want to charge a battery while still using the camera? I can't, like I did with the NEX-5. Now I have to purchase another separate battery charger???
More to follow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by chicagoCamera Overheats for video
Bought this camera and shot 20 min of video. Camera shut down due to overheating. Shot 5 min and shut down, Then shot 2 min and shut down. Overall, it was not acceptable. Even the entry level nikon was able to perform better than this.
I am hesitant to buy the a7 series due to this bad defect with sony camera's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PhotoShawn Very impressive camera
I had a trip coming up and wanted to buy a camera that was compact with great sensor. I bought several cameras including the A6000. When I took the same pictures with different cameras, the quality of the picture that came out of the A6000 was no where close to the other 3. Very impressive and true and vibrant colors. The AF is extremely fast and the 11 fps has been very very impressive and useful. the 16-50 lens that comes with it is more than enough to take regular pictures of people and places. The battery lasted me all day to my surprise. I actually had a backup battery but never had the need to change it. Keep in mind that I took several hundred pictures per day. Now here are a few things that I found wrong with the camera. 1. When I taking a video, the camera overheats and shuts off after about 25 or so minutes. But then again, this is not a camcorder. The most video I had to take at my trip were 5 to 10 minute videos. It probably needs a better heatsink if you ask me. 2. I wasn't able to get the pictures bright enough when the sun was behind the person I was trying to capture. This could have been a operator error. Need to look into it. 3. I would get an error message from time to time and camera would not function. What I did to overcome this was to remove the battery and reinsert it. Need to talk to customer service about this. Other than these minor issues, It is a very impressive camera. I only with it had a GPS built into it. I bet they are trying to incorporate that into next year's model. We can wait and see.

panorama mode stinks
the rest of the camera is great but the pano mode stinks. you will burn up lots of the useful shutter count before you get a good pic that doesn't fail.
