7.2-channel 4K Wi-Fi Network A/V Receiver
Great Receiver but has some issues
Once you get it set up its a great product (BUT) I have a D-TV sat box and I tried ALL THE CODES in the dn-1040 instruction manual including the ones for the other products under sat top boxes (p122) with no success to program my HR24-500 Receiver with the RM-AAP102 Remote that came with the STR-DN1040 I called sony and they struck out (The person on the sony help line was very professional and did her very best to help me)
The only thing left for me is to upgrade my sat box and hope the new one is programmable with the remote and the sony a/v receiver.
This receiver cost more than expected (I:m RETIRED) but on the other hand in the long run its better to spend the extra 100.00 and not be disappointed later after the initial cost. This receiver has more bells and whistles than I'll ever figure out how to use. I'm a little disappointed that it fell short on the programmable code section. Other than that its a great product and it sounds better than I ever heard before with the sony woofer, and the 3 front sony speaker system.

Very satisfied...and relieved
I replaced my Yamaha RX-V1500 to take advantage of the HDMI connections. I've been extremely happy so far. The sound coming from my Paradigm Studio/20 speakers, which have been bi-amped, is full and warm. Set up was easy, and I really have enjoyed the TV interface. I miss some of the high end features of my Yamaha, such as extra connections for bi-amping (one must sacrifice the 7.2 and run 5.2 which is fine with me), and the ability to plug the sub woofer into the receiver. But I accept this for the lower cost, and the excellent sound.

Greatly exceeded my expectations
I bought this to upgrade my mid 80's Fisher rack stero (150watt huge speakers system# and to add surround sound to a new 50 inch tv in my bedroom. I added a nice center channel and 2 smaller rear speakers and am blown away by the sound. I have thrown every source of deep bass at it that I can find and it handles flawlessly while letting me hear the highest treble and even at whisper level all is fabulously clear. The apple airplay hiccups a bit but it does on everything else I play that from, but the direct to the sony output from my NAS or PCs is fabulous and I am creating playlists from 200 gb of music, including lots of apple lossless format, all playing with only slight hesitation as a playlist buffers. I have various HDMI devices #2 blue ray players #one with SACD# apple TV, turntable, TV, hooked up with no issues whatsoever and the wireless connection sees my music on the various PCs I have around the house and my NAS #Synology DS 411 Slim# as I already mentioned. I was disappointed that until this week, the Apple Lossless format wouldn't play but now #an automatic firmware update must have recently happened to the Sony DN1040) that also is playing and it sounds amazing!!!! I am enjoying my music as never before hearing it the way the gods intended. Thank you SONY!!!!

2 Zone Pretty Much Useless. Go for 840 instead
Bought it because my old receiver is dying. Bought it with the idea I can hard wire it out to my speakers in the back yard like I used to. No A/B speaker function so thought 2 zone would do. Should have done more research as not only does one need a 2nd receiver to run the 2nd zone and very few inputs can pass through to the 2nd zone.
I like the Wi/Fi and interface function so will keep it. Also got it on sale so returning it and paying for the 840 at this time isn't worth it. Will solve the problem by spending an additional $50 - $100 on a speaker switching bar.
Bought it at the Sony store and very disappointed with the lack product knowledge by the sales staff. They were supposed to contact me with a potential solution. I gather their isn't one outside of a switch bar, (Sony doesn't carry), so they are avoiding contact in hopes of the return time will run out.
