This TV is too amazing for words! Picture quality and size makes me feel that I'm actually paying for actors to act in front of me at this point.
This TV will make you rethink your whole life. It will make you think about the choices you have made that lead you up to this point of being in it's presence.
I swear, sometimes I hear the TV calling out to me and whispering, "watch me," "look at my deep blacks" and stuff like that. Almost feels a little suggestive at this point.
Anyway, stop wasting your hard earned money on silly things like rent, utilities, food etc. This TV will provide everything you need to sustain your life!

by KingAirCaptain Broken after 3 months
Screen started displaying a vertical line 16” from the left edge after 3 months of use. The line runs from the top of the picture to the bottom. The picture to the left of this line has washed out colors and is blurrier than the rest of the picture. Internet is full of similar issues. Sony is replacing TV under warranty. What's it's life expectancy? Gave it one star because it's required.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Defjamz Great 4K set
After reviewing available 4K sets, we decided to go with the 70X850B from Sony. Competing sets from Samsung were nice as well, but they offered no 70" options, and 75" was too expensive. The Sony is not perfect, but it does offer fantastic colors, good motion handling, and decent black levels (i'm used to plasmas). 4K resolution is awesome (what little content that is available anyways), and gaming is a joy on this set. My major gripes are a lack of full color management controls, and no 10 point white balance. I have performed a full calibration with my meter and calman 5, but I can only go so far without those controls. But, I am able to get a nice, saturated image with good 'pop'. Gamma curve is difficult to get flat, but 'cinema 1' does get fairly close. Panel uniformity can also be an issue for some, but I lucked out with mine having minimal clouding. It is certainly no plasma, but the image is generally very pleasing to watch, particularly with ambient light. Overall, highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Whatmeworry Sharpest picture of them all
Everything positive i have read on this set is true, it has the sharpest picture, easiest to setup and use all of the many features i have never seen so many apps on anything truly mind boggling, and best of all its 70" , doesn't sound like much over a 65" ,but after 3 weeks the 65" Samsung curved screen looks much smaller to me.
Having said all of this i may return this to Best Buy ,i have until the 15th of Jan.to do so.
The reason ,and i have not seen this on any review is that when the picture is viewed very little from center the color fades drastically especially skin tones, i have had Geek squad out to check it and they said although it is very noticeable ,it is normal for matte screens due to the texture of the screen. Might be right ,the gloss screened ,curved Samsung doesn't have this issue, but the glossy curved screen is a turn off to me. so not sure at this point .otherwise completely satisfied ,but my issue is why i kept a star back

Great picture, Simple set up, Access to internet seamless. This set excels in upgrading B&W movies. It really does a wonderful job upgrading movies from TCM. Makes them look brand new. I don't have a 4K player yet so I can't comment

Rated 1 out of 5 by GeneM Disappointed
This is the second post, not sure why the first post was not posted. The TV arrived on time and with great delivery service, however, the 3D did not work. After multiple phone calls and approx. 4.5 hrs of my time Sony determined the problem was the battery in the 3D glasses. I tried to tell them that on the first call but they would not pay for the costs of returning the glasses. Finally they agreed to take the battery back and they agreed to send me a new battery after they received my defective battery. Think about it, all this over a $.50 cent battery on ebay. It is very hard to believe that a customer service department could be this bad but they are. If you are thinking about buying a very expensive TV from Sony and in all honesty anything from Sony I would beware. I also had my credit card company on the phone and they could not believe the poor service over a cheap battery. God only knows what Sony would do with a serious issue with the TV. Sony has not sent me a new battery yet but if they handle this issue to my satisfaction I will update this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JTMD Excellent 4K HD TV
Extremely happy with Sony's new 70 inch 4K HD TV. Worth the extra price over their 65 inch model. Great colors, excellent blacks, outstanding upscaling. I prefer this model's active 3D versus passive 3D, VA screen versus IPS screen.
This 70 inch HD TV has approximately 35% more screen area than my previous 60 Inch Sony HD TV. I can sit a lot closer for a more immersive effect without seeing any pixelation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Yamaki Best Picture Ever?
First, let me say I am impressed with the clarity, color depth, black levels and overall presentation of the Sony XBR70X850B monitor. And it would have gotten a 5 Star rating except for the extremely frustrating difficulty in getting this TV to make the HDMI "handshake" with several audio visual receivers, and HT processors that have the required specifications to support higher level resolution signals. The problem persists so a word of warning to prospective buyers...be prepared to dump your HDMI switching scheme via AVR or processor in favor of individual HDMI connections to the monitor from each source with a corresponding parallel audio connection from each source to your AVR or processor. The last part only applies to those who eschew having the monitor process the audio.
Now, out with the bad and in with the good. I was not trying to "future proof" my viewing pleasure by selecting a 4K capable TV. Rather, I was looking for the best picture and, to my eye, the Sony XBR line of 4K TV's wins the best picture ever award when compared to standard resolution LED and plasma monitors.
With very little tweaking on the settings you can settle in and enjoy a fantastic result, even when viewing non-4K content. Regardless of whether you are viewing a 1080p BluRay, your standard 720p cable fare or other similar content, you will definitely see a difference in quality.
The "SMART" functions are very easy to access and use. If you have a streaming BluRay player in the home, you'll notice there are other streaming options open to you now and the access menu is extremely informative and well designed.
Even though you may not be interested in 4K content, if you are looking for the Best Picture Ever, you really should preview this TV and compare it side by side with the standard LED offerings out there. You'll be glad you did.
