by jehill39 Flawed backlighting design
Overall, the TV works just fine. The picture is great, except when the screen is blank (white) or the camera is panning across a light background color. Take a look at the attached photo of a blank screen. It illustrates vertical banding. The dark areas indicate inadequate backlighting. Most of the time, you won't notice it because the video present masks it. The only way that you can get rid of the problem is to exchange the set for a model that doesn't exhibit the problem, namely a more expensive 4k model with full-array backlighting. The 70" model is even worse as it may exhibit radial banding. The issue is discussed in detail at http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/1523063-official-sony-kdl-xxw850b-thread.html.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mfs667 Excellent Picture
I originaly purchased a Sharp - AQUOS Q Series - 60" but the picture was not all that good, I was supprised with 4K ability. Also it could not add additional applications such as Amazon Prime movies.
So I switched to the Sony W850B and WOW what a great picture, better than I'v seen in any 60 inch TV.
Very good audio especially attached to my stereo system.
Very easy to use remote and easy TV setup and configuration.
The unit is slim doesn't even get warm, unlike my old Toshiba.
I love this TV...............

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bouncer Great TV
Our former main TV was a 55". My brother-in-law has this same model and I've always admired the picture. When the other unit went on the fritz, I needed to replace it. Sony was my first choice. It was extremely easy to setup and the peripherals went together very well and operate perfectly. This TV has a breathtaking picture. We do a lot of recording and watch old shows and movies. It also has a beautiful 3D function so I have begun collecting a few things filmed in that format. The Smart function is perfect and works very well with our internet system. Although we have a 7.1 Theater System, we use the Sony's speakers almost exclusively - they are excellent. I would buy this same Sony model again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Niff An Excellent Television
I ordered this directly from Sony and received it a few days ago (took six days from order to delivery). Overall, I'm quite happy with this set. I'm coming from a 47" Philips LCD that was, in my view, a very good TV. Things that standout in my mind are that the blacks are very deep and uniform (no clouding), off axis viewing is much better than I had anticipated and the 3-D actually works quite well (albeit slightly dark, easily compensated for with upping the backlight or brightness). I'm still fussing with the settings, trying to determine what works best (I did not have it 'professionally calibrated'), but the picture quality is impressive, even though this model lacks the Triluminos feature. HD feeds (cable box and Netflix) show a slight graininess, but I assume I can fix that within the settings (sharpness, etc.). Photos via the USB port are gorgeous. Sound is very good for a flat panel TV, but I do wish the optional wireless subwoofer was available (I believe it's coming soon, just like the BT500 replacement 3D glasses). The Smart TV features are capable, but navigation takes some getting used to. A few things aren't available out of the box (Amazon Instant Video, for one), but hopefully soon that will be rectified. Needless to say, I won't be giving up the Roku.
Setup was a breeze. There are warnings in the literature about how to anchor the TV so it doesn't fall over. Mine is safe, but if I had little kids in the house, I'd definitely anchor it to the wall if it were free standing.
Gaming on this TV is exceptional. PS3, 360, and WiiU games look incredible. Also, BluRay playback is outstanding.
I'm still discovering its features and settings, but I am quite pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MarkS Another Quality Sony Product
The picture quality, features and functionality of this TV are top notch. The only concerns I have and none of them are reason to degrade my overall rating are (1) The rubber feet on the stand move or come off to easily (adhesive and feet should be of better quality). (2) Viewing off axis you do loose a little of the picture quality but is to be expected. (3) The unit comes with a 10/100 Ethernet port and not a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port. In todays digital world where speed and transfer rates are a big concern it seems as though this would be a no brainer.(the unit should come standard with a gigabit Ethernet port).

Rated 4 out of 5 by RGReview Still has adjustment issues
On of the reasons I would give it a 4 star and not a 5 star is because of the color adjustment. It takes forever to adjust the color to look right. With out Yellow it is very hard to get a true color adjustment. Everything has a red tint or green tint. The Blue helps but not enough. Also it changes color every time you change the channel and has to be readjusted again. And some times right in the middle of watching some thing it needs to be adjusted. It has taken me 3 weeks to get it to where it is the same on all the time but I am not there yet. I had a Sony about 5 years ago for 3 says and took it back because of this. I was assured this problem was fixed. My wife and friends told me to take it back. Once it is set the picture is very sharp and it is a great tv. The apps are fast and work better than any thing I have. The 3D is OK but not great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VicG Excellent - So Far
So far, excellent. The remote takes a bit of getting used to. The two concentric ring buttons are too close and cause some confusion. I've had a 40" Sony Bravia for about 8 1/2 years with never a single problem. That's why, when we decided we needed 60 inches, we went Sony.
